We are inviting you! Come take up space. ❤️

Today we will do a clean sweep of the space. Tomorrow we will do an open house! Stop by from 4-midnight Saturday April 2nd to see how you might fill the space. During the open house, we will have an all ages sound lab. Come chat, dance, draw, or make some noise with us!

We want our schedule to fill with the things that y’all want for our community. As we reopen our doors, it will take time to build back equity a capacity for the space. If you have energy or funds to spare, it will help continue this shared space for so many into the future.

Let’s be in community together. Let’s have deep conversation, joy, and energy here.

On March 18th, OutrSpaces will reopen to the public as a Low-Amplification Venue.

Through the last two years, we have kept our doors open by hosting a constant stream of community rehearsals.
As we open our doors for our 6th year, we are working to balance the current flow of rehearsals and event requests.

We are implementing new booking policies, adding a website, and updating the physical space to better suit our needs. On March 18th, our fifth birthday, we will begin scheduling public events with artists and hosts.

As a low amplification venue, OutrSpaces will no longer provide live audio and video tech support for events. We hope that reducing our workload for each event will help us present a safe space and a greater variety of community events.

It is our goal to provide a consistent, sensory-friendly, and creative environment for Omaha with these changes.

Look out for more details to come and start brewing ideas for March 18th and on!

Mechelle Sky Walker is a Water Protector, Political and Environmental Activist. She has spent over 17 years helping Dr. Frank LaMere fight to ban beer sales at Whiteclay on the border of the Pine Ridge reservation. She was born and raised in Lincoln, NE and calls herself a second generation Urban Native American. More info to come.

Riley is currently a second year law student at Creighton University School of Law. Over the summer, he interned as a law clerk at the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the District of Nebraska and began volunteering as a legal observer during protests and demonstrations in Omaha

Born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska, Riley has previously worked as an intern with the Nebraska Democratic Party, a canvasser for Planned Parenthood of the Heartland to speak with women about health care and the Affordable Care Act, and as the volunteer coordinator in the campaign to build Pinnacle Bank Arena in downtown Lincoln. From 2011-2017, Riley served in the United States Air Force as an intelligence analyst, earned an associate’s degree in intelligence studies and completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Upon finishing his service in the military, Riley worked as a veteran workforce coordinator at the Nebraska Department of Labor where he worked with veterans who have significant barriers to employment and provided them assistance with obtaining employment and veteran-related issues.

Ozioma (Ozy) Aloziem is an Igbo scholar situated at the intersection of multiple ways of knowing. Originally raised on Omaha land (occupied Omaha, NE), she has been a visitor on Arapaho and Cheyenne territories (occupied Denver, CO) since 2015. As a critical Black feminist, Ozy prioritizes racial and gender equity in her scholarship and activism. She uses this focus to amplify voices of marginalized communities that are left on the fringes of academic research, public policy and global conversation. She has been the lead researcher and equity consultant for several projects in over 4 countries, has presented at numerous conferences in various disciplines and served as a UN Practicum Delegate for the United Nation’s Annual Commission on the Status of Women in 2019. Ozy believes in engaging in critical research as a radical act of freedom. Presently, her research is centered around radical healing, liberatory education and Black women’s wellbeing.

Katherine is an activist, actor and native North Omahan. She currently serves as Inclusive Communities' Program Partner of Community Engagement. Her passions lie at the intersection of the arts and liberation visioning, connecting with people and cooking.

Renee Sans Souci | she. her. hers.
With a degree in education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and being an UmoNhoN (Omaha) woman and practitioner of traditional healing, Renee Sans Souci combines her life experiences with a learning process that helps learners to engage in their own cultural identities and languages. Renee has been a Teaching Artist with the Lied Center for Performing Arts since 2009. She has presented at numerous conferences and workshops on various topics related to Native Science, History of Indian Education, Native languages, Poetry, and Sustainability.

3 YEARS! 🥳🥰 Donate to help us keep this going for many more. We are so thankful for the many communities who have filled the carwash and now our space in Little Bohemia. From arts to advocacy, together, we have made sure there is a space available for our community to present their ideas and vision! ✨✨✨

I love that the OutrSpaces board members have such a wealth of knowledge and help me continue my education! OutrSpaces wouldn't be the same without them. -

OutrSpaces will be cancelling our public events this and next week to help prevent spread of COVID-19. We will be following suit with the OPS cancellation schedule. We hope to be open as soon as is safe. This is a tough decision as events are our major income and know that our collaborating artists and advocates rely on this income too. Consider how you might support the community in the time being.

Please stay safe and we hope you find goodness around you in the coming weeks. Get out in the sun when it shines, maybe go to a prairie preserve, and keep your hands washed. :-)

Although they sometimes get knocked around with all the people coming in and out of this space, these plants are doing so well up with our skylight. So excited as they keep growing with our community. They give so much to the artists and advocates who work in the space daily! ( ´◡‿ゝ◡`)

We have changed the date. May 23rd! Due to MUD construction in the neighborhood and avoiding conflicts here, we had to change it. This will be a much better day for this all day festival! So excited to release the line-up soon!

A further note on local arts and advocacy: local creatives are often so approachable and love to chat at the coffee shop, the grocery store ( ) or else where in the city. You can have further discussion about their work and yours in your day to day! Living in Omaha, we have found this is something unique to supporting local.
