A NOTE FROM OUR GROWER:
Hello Fruit Truck customers! A few notes on what to expect when you receive your box of Satsumas. It is super important to know, Satsumas are not just another mandarin. Grocery markets across the country are always well stocked with 'mandarins.' Satsumas are unique for several really cool reasons. First and foremost, we do not gas Satsumas to make them turn orange. That's right, most early season other mandarins are subjected to ethylene gas for as long as 4 days to get the peel to turn from green to orange. This gas does not affect the maturity, only the color. Our Satsumas ripen naturally on the tree. On occasion the fruit ripens ahead of the fruit turning orange. It is perfectly normal to find some of the fruit still showing green. Yup, perfectly normal to see green areas or yellow green areas on our Satsuma. Part of this ripening naturally often yields a really soft skin. All citrus will get soft if you leave it on the tree long enough. The soft skin is a sign the peel has separated from the meat. Satsumas do not have a very porous peel which means all of the juice stays inside! Satsuma boxes from the Fruit Truck will have soft feeling fruit. Although the fruit feels super soft, the juicy flavor is still intact. Our single focus at the Fruit Truck is flavor. Flavor, Flavor, Flavor! We do not focus on color or texture but only flavor. Dig into the soft fruit and enjoy our Satsumas that are carefully ripened on the tree.
