This is one of the fun videos I created for a Visit Knox County Nebraska project a few months ago. There are so many fun and interesting things to do in Knox County and it is only about two and a half hours from Omaha.

A project I envisioned several years ago is finally becoming a reality. Courtney is one of about a dozen artists transforming utility boxes into works of art along Howard Street in Downtown Omaha. The Omaha Downtown Improvement District worked with Omaha by Design and Local Artists Local Art to make this happen. Special thanks to the Nebraska Arts Council and the Midlands Community Foundation for their generous funding of this project. There are still a few artists finishing up, so stop by and tell them how much you appreciate their work to help beautify downtown Omaha. omaha

Here's some exciting news. I created three short films that tell a story of unique places in Nebraska that are going, going, but not yet gone. I just learned that they were selected for the upcoming Flatwater Film Festival. In "Welcome to the Smallest Town in America" you will meet Elsie Eiler, the sole resident of Monowi, Nebraska. Elsie, now 87 years old, runs the Monowi Tavern and serves as the town's mayor, clerk, and treasurer. "The Last Cobbler" features Johnny Kolessa who has been the cobbler at Young's Western Wear in Valentine, Nebraska for over 40 years. In recent years the cobbler trade has been in decline--particularly in rural areas. Johnny is likely to be the last cobbler at Young's Western Wear--a business that began as a cobbler shop over ninety years ago. The third film features the Coney Island Lunch Room in Grand Island, Nebraska. The Coney Island is more than just a diner. It is the place where generations have gathered to tell stories and to celebrate life. it is the center of a truly American saga of a Greek immigrant family and their struggle to create a better life for themselves and for others. Heavy rains in South Dakota have caused the Missouri River to rise way above its flood stage. The river is supposed to crest tomorrow. Lewis and Clark Landing in Omaha looks good, but Hanafan Park on the Iowa side has not fared so well.
