Lavender: The Series - A synopsis.
It’s the final day in the lengthy and steamy trial of Heather Neils, a high-class, expensive personal es**rt charged with the slaying of a regular client, William Benton, a personal financial consultant trafficking, among other things, hard drugs.
It is alleged that Ms Neils had a 2 year relationship with Benton, ending with his brutal murder. Ms Neils admits to killing Benton, but insists it was in self-defense, stating he had attacked her causing her to fear for her life. She claimed that Benton was just using her to make some big deal go through and when she said no, he attacked her telling her he would kill her if she didn’t go along.
The prosecution counters that this was a murder committed in the act of committing a felony; the prosecution claims that Neils was attempting to relieve Mr Benton of a large amount of co***ne. A call to 9-1-1 was placed to police but by an unknown number, and when the police did arrive, all they could do was start putting the puzzle together.
Prosecutor Claire Hulsted and Defense Attorney Mitchell Phelps give summations, and the Honorable William Lawrence instructs the jury as to their somewhat challenging duty: the deliberation of Ms Neils fate. The jury are excused to their chambers, and the court is in recess.
The jury work through the narrative of this tragic story to find the truth with what evidence and testimony that is available, and through their recounting of the story, the viewer discovers the sad, sordid story of a young woman, a pr******te, her client, both wrapped up in the middle of a mess that involves not only them, but Benton’s “silent” and unknown partners, as well as police officers, and some politicians. How do all the pieces of the puzzle fit together? Who was Benton’s supporter? Will the jury be able to untangle this knot? And when they do, who will come out of this alive?
Heather Neils could face the death penalty if convicted. However, on the other hand, if Ms Neils is indeed telling the truth, who ultimately is responsible for this out of control train that ended Benton’s life? Is there truly something that Benton was trying to tell her that night?
What if she's innocent? Who else could be responsible for a night gone wrong? One thing is for sure, If she is found not-guilty, how far down the rabbit hole will we go before the truth is discovered?
