This year Dr. Charlie G. Spell will be the guest conductor of the "Star Spangled Banner" at the Homecoming game. Charlie G. Spell arrived at SC State College in the Fall of 1967, as a sousaphone player. He is known as an original Thunder Brother and a charter member of the Zeta Eta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity. Upon graduation in 1971, Charlie Spell continued to serve the Marching 101 as a graduate assistant, and as assistant band director from 1975-1979. He later went on to serve the University for many years as the Chair of the Department of Education until his retirement. Dr. Spell is a life long supporter of the University Band Program and it's students. Salute to a 101 Legend!
