Torrance Lacewell was a former drum major, alto saxophone, mellophone and french horn player, who arrived at SC State in 1994 from Wilmington, North Carolina. His high school band director was Alumni Band member Carl Sinkler (F’87). Mr. Sinkler was very influential in his decision to attend SC State University as a Music Education major under the tutelage of the late Ronald J. Sarjeant, former Director of Bands. Torrance exemplified leadership during his time on the band. He performed on the Marching 101 Band, Symphonic Band, and Pep Band. He became drum major the spring semester of his Freshman year and held the title for three years. Torrance was initiated into the Zeta Eta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity as a freshman in 1995. He was a Life Member of the SC State Alumni Band Association. His love for band led him to create The Lacewell Family Band Aide Fund for students of the Marching 101 Band. Prayers of comfort to all those who knew him.

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Alumni Band member Monique Witherspoon. We were so elated to see her this past Homecoming where we presented her with an Honorary Life Membership in our organization. We also witnessed her determination and faith. Our prayers go out to her husband, Robert, and her brother, Vernon McGowan, and the family, friends, bandmates, sorors/frat that she leaves behind. May the memories of the times you shared bring you comfort during this difficult time. β€πŸ’™β€πŸ’™
