Vinegrass

Vinegrass A boot-stomping boutique Americana-Bluegrass festival on October 1st, 2023 at the Truro Vineyards In order to grow you need Strong Roots.

The Vinegrass Music Festival is the main fundraiser for the Vinegrass Organization, a non-profit music company, that produces concerts, camps, and workshops, in order to raise money for our charitable mission. The mission is to provide scholarships to students pursuing a degree in music at an accredited 4year music program. In addition to the scholarships, we will subsidize camps and instruments t

o younger students in need, and give an annual grant to an artist or band in the Roots genre. Founded by Monica Rizzio (Frontwoman for the band Tripping Lily) and her husband Pete Fasano in August of 2013, Vinegrass is a lifelong dream for Monica to give back to those who have helped her become a professional musician. Raised on a ranch in east Texas, Monica always loved music, but her family's financial means prohibited her from taking music lessons and having instruments. Her only instrument for the longest time was her voice until she was able to play the flute in the high school band. Monica did not learn to play the fiddle, ukulele, or guitar until she was 23, after graduation from Belmont University in Nashville with a degree in Music. She often wonders what may have been had she been given the opportunity as a child. She has opened the only roots based music school on Cape Cod, West Bend Music and provides musical instruction for the Fiddle, Banjo, Mandolin, Guitar, Piano, and Ukulele. Based on the shores of Cape Cod, Vinegrass is inviting the Roots world into our little mecca, full of artists, musicians, and fisherman. The festival will be held next October 4, 2015 at the Truro Vineyards, in the dunes of the outer Cape. In the next few years, Vinegrass aims to take its mission and festivals to vineyards around the country and world.

In 2013 produced our first show ever with an up & coming duo, Mandolin Orange, from North Carolina on a Monday night at O’Shea’s. We went on to produce a few more shows with them and they played our inaugural festival in 2014. We were trying to fill the void of Americana, Bluegrass, and Singer-Songwriter music genres on Cape Cod. Today, we are humbled as our efforts to cultivate that scene has more venues and organizations booking this music. Tonight our friends Emily & Andrew of will be playing to a sold out stage with another multi-show Vinegrass performer

We are stoked to announce the lineup for the inaugural “Vines Stage”

First up is TROUBADOUR DAVIS a local Cape Codder whose crafty, timeless songs are brought to life by whatever instrument he is playing at the time, guitar, banjo, or Harp…yes Harp! He was just nominated for a The New England Music Awards for male performer of the year.

Maybe you never heard of Raw Honey, but Tom Hagerty was one of the founders of Cape Cod’s original bluegrass band from the 1970’s. Since those days he has mastered songwriting and his live performances are legendary, whether on stage or by the campfire. A long time fixture at Sally O’Briens & The Plough & Stars, we are stoked to share his love of music with you.

Wrapping up The Vines Stage are The Simple Sisters, a good time collaboration of Lydia Parkington .p and Meagan Gillis. . This steel guitar & cello duo have nailed the ol’ country songbook peppered with salty originals. They are a staple at The Old Colony in pTown and a welcomed yeehaw at the festival!

We know first hand how difficult it is to deal with weather when producing outdoor events and nothing is worse then having to cancel. We feel for everyone involved with Truro Treasures and especially the Town of Truro that Saturday is that dreaded weather day. In recognition of the support Vinegrass has received from Truro Treasures and the Town of Truro over the years we will be donating $20 of every Vinegrass Festival Ticket sold this weekend(9/15-9/17) to Truro Treasures. It looks like Sunday is shaping up to be a beauty so hit the Antique & Classic Car Show at the Community Center from 11-2 and then head on over to Truro Vineyards + South Hollow Spirits for the annual Grape Stomp and enjoy one of our favorite Cape bands, The Dirty Water Dance Band

While we are humbled to be nominated for the Top 5 Local Events in the Cape Cod Community Choice Awards for the Vinegrass Free Music Series, reality is we haven't even had a show yet, so how could we be the best??? Feel free to vote for some of our favorite events Love Live Local - Wellfleet Oyster Festival - or Harwich Cranberry Festival. Not even sure what the link is, but we've been to all of them and they all rock! If we find the link, we are definitely voting for Cape Cod Melody Tent for best music venue, We saw Trombone Shorty & Mavis Staples there the other night; a world class production and best sound system on Cape!

The next arist on our lineup is going to blow everyone's minds! Originally from Chicago, Baiman moved to Nashville at eighteen, and has spent the last decade working as a musician in a wide variety of roles, from session musician (Molly Tuttle, Kelsey Waldon, Caroline Spence), to live sidewoman (Kacey Musgraves, Amy Ray), to bandmate and producer. On her new full-length album Cycles, Baiman has found a grittier musical medium for her signature unabashed and defiant songwriting, employing a majority-female team including co-producer Olivia Hally, known as the front woman of Indie-pop band Oh Pep! 📸

This new reality we are in poses many challenges for a festival. We are bummed that GoldenOak won't be able to grace our stage this Sunday, but we will have them next year. Through the graces of a tight and collaborative music community here in New England, we have found the perfect fit to fill their gap and kick off this year's festival. More details to be released later today.... Stay Tuned, the show goes on forever...

Dear wonderful people, we are sorry to tell you, that Lena has tested positive for Covid19, and because of this, we will be canceling our appearance at this year's Vinegrass. It saddens us deeply to not be able to play this year's festival, something we had really been looking forward to. But the party on the Cape will continue without us and we will see you in 2023 Vinegrass!

Our next band is going to be one to remember! hard work has been a huge part of the inspiration for their music. Their songs and arrangements have grown out of time spent on the road, growing closer, learning with and from each other and weathering the up's and down's of the journey together. "We have a truly special bond creatively and personally. It's the driving force behind the music," violinist/songwriter Claire Byrne adds. We can’t wait for you to join our Vinegrass family!
