The unfortunate truth of owning and running a business- itās HARD. I mean like really TOUGH. Of course it can be beautiful too, but if youāve never opened, operated and successfully ran a business itās hard to describe. Thereās pros and cons for both. Clocking in and out can have challenges as well. Thereās got to be balance.
With your own business, what they donāt tell you is that it can cause severe stress and anxiety. It drains you mentally to the point of depression in even the most laid-back people.
People will talk about you, compare you to others, use you, they will view you as a service and not a person anymore.
Friends and family will expect discounts and people will value you and your hard work less than a big chain store. People are quicker to leave bad reviews than contacting the owner and letting them make it right. Nine times out of ten an owner will do everything in their power to fix any mistake.
You have to worry about if you forget to email/message someone back, are they going to think it was on purpose. Did you disappoint them? Will they hold that against you? Did they take it personally?!
Work-life balance with relationships, families and friends all can be strained.
Thereās a reason you donāt see many people succeed in small businesses after 5-10 years. If they are successful, they are overwhelmed.
It takes a toll. Itās freaking exhausting. Especially the past couple of years when so much has been out of our control especially inflation. When people complain about prices, business owners are complaining about the increase as well but have to move with the items to stay in biz.
Small biz are the first to support our neighbors, the kidās schools & sponsor events. We know itās a choice and we love being apart of something bigger and building something special where we live.
So cheers to small businesses. And hereās a small reminder that we are just normal people with hectic lives trying to support our families and our team.
This has been shared by many small biz owners (and revised) and we support this message.
Please support small business!
Much love.
