On this cold winter here in NYC, we're cozying up with this purrrrfect quilt—a charming example of the outstanding creativity of some 19th-century American quilt makers. ⁣⁣

Following her own design aesthetic, the unknown maker created a vibrant, unique quilt full of movement and featuring what we must assume were some of her favorite things—cats, plants, and love. ⁣⁣

Bold and engaging pictorial quilts like this one are rare among mid-19th century quilts, which often follow more regimented patterns.

Many of the motifs here—the cats, hearts, trees, birds, and flowers—were cut following paper templates, a technique that is commonly found in quilts made in New York State. ⁣⁣

This is the year of the 160th anniversary of Remembrance Day held in Gettysburg PA in November. We invite you to attend the full weekend of events. Our salesroom will open on Thursday morning, our Ball and an optional Banquet is held on Friday. Saturday is the Parade with speakers afterward and Luminaries at night. A full weekend of History!
