LENGTHY POST ABOUT THE SOAP BOX RACE BUT PLEASE READ THROUGHLY!!
Osawatomie will be hosting their 2nd Annual Soap Box Race Derby race this year! On Saturday, April 24th the roads listed on the map below will be closed from 5:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and again on Sunday, April 25th from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The roads may open back up sooner, depending on how smoothly the race runs. This post is to inform you of road closure dates and times that the City of Osawatomie has approved through a special event permit. Please see the road closure map for more details.
At these designated times, you will NOT be able to drive on any closed roads. There will also be NO PARKING on Main Street or on 10th Street from Main to Pacific. Any vehicles left within these areas will be towed, so please make plans accordingly.
On Friday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. a segment of Main Street will be closed, just West of the park entrance to about the middle of the park as we set up the finish line. We will try to get done ASAP but wanted to let you know in case you need to detour around to get to your destination.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this will cause but hope you will join in the fun that we hope to have this day! We will have 31 extremely excited kids, some of whom will be traveling from as far as Oregon, Kentucky, Colorado, Iowa and Missouri. We will also have 11 kids from Osawatomie, Parker, Paola & Edgerton participating in the fun as well! All of them are excited to show off their racing skills! Let’s show these racers what a WONDERFUL place Osawatomie is!
There are 3 divisions that will race that day (Stock, Super Stock & Masters). This is a double and single elimination race on both days and as long as all goes well, we hope to be done around 5:00 p.m.
The OHS Singers will open up the races with the National Anthem and the Mayor and Chief of Police will be the first ones down the hill! Come see who the Hare is and who the Turtle is! The Band of Oz will also be playing in the morning and Bull Creek BBQ will be there Saturday for lunch & Carolyn’s Kitchen on Sunday for lunch. The Knights of Columbus will also be selling funnel cakes.
Again, we hope that you will overlook this inconvenience and support these racers and our community for this extremely unique opportunity. We are the only City in the state of Kansas privileged to have a Soap Box Race!
