Car show food.
What more need be said?
At the WCCS, we want to provide food that is delicious and would cause you to want to come back for more.
We are thankful for Dane, one of our members who was a gourmet chef for many years. He is heading a team to provide our show participants and attendees tasty food for purchase. Back again by popular demand—his homemade recipe of Carolina pulled pork! We will also have delicious baked goods available for purchase—the proceeds of which will help some teenagers to go on a foreign country missions trip next year…we look forward to seeing you next weekend (August 10)!

Stopped by Image 360, Inc. Yesterday to take a peak at the trophies for the upcoming show—they turned out great! Cindy suggested to us last winter that we do something special for the “Big Four” (Best of Show, Pastors Choice, Spectators Choice, Kids Choice) and we have followed her advice—not disappointed!
We will do a video reveal on Friday of these one of a kind custom trophies…

The second annual WCCS is only a few weeks away (AUGUST 10, 2024) and full preparations are currently taking place by our staff to make this an enjoyable experience for the whole family. We would love to see your vintage, classic, or special interest vehicle. We have a dozen categories with popular vote trophies in which you can enter you car, truck, or tractor.

The purpose of this post is to give you the opportunity to tell us about the classic car that you once owned but “got away”. Bonus points if you have pictures. All show attendees that posted a picture of a vintage car they used to own will be entered into a drawing for a specialty prize!

To start things off…this is Josh Stertz with his 1969 Ford Mustang. He purchased this car while a Junior in high school back in the spring of 1994. It was a basic Stang with a standard 302 and a C4 tr**ny. He owned it for about a year and a half but the undercarriage was really rusty and the drivers side subframe rail began to separate from the body. Back then, the car didn’t have much value and so Josh traded it for a different car…😣

Let’s hear the story and see pictures of the one that you let “get away”…

Met with Cindy at Image 360, Inc. today as we mapped out the trophies for the upcoming car show (pictured are the trophies from 2023). The folks at Image 360 do a wonderful job whether working on flyers/handouts/posters etc or trophies/banners/signs etc. It’s great to collaborate with them again for THE WCCS.

Our four biggest trophies for 2024 are going to be something really special and I am excited to unveil those to you in late July. Please keep an eye out when we show them off for the first time.

We had an excellent team of Wyldewood volunteer staff to meet needs and help run the show last year, I’m looking forward to working with them again for an even bigger event in 2024!

The car show season is upon us again! We had a great first annual WCCS but are looking to see it expand in 2024. We are moving it one week later in the year so as not to conflict with the Winnebago county fair. Our show will be Saturday August 10, 2024. We would love to see you come, bring your family, and invite your friends. This is a family centric event and we have lots of fun filled activities for all to enjoy. Mark your calendars….

It is only a couple of days before Christmas but before we know it, the show season will be back into full swing! We thoroughly enjoyed hosting our first show this past August and are already making plans for our second show (mark your calendars for the second Saturday in August!) We’ll begin to place monthly updates here on the page until June at which time we will kick it into full throttle mode!

From all of us at Wyldewood Baptist Church, please have a Merry Christmas and don’t forget the Reason for the season. Please join us for a VERY special one hour candlelight service on Christmas Eve at 5:00pm.

Matthew 1:20-23
But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. [21] And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. [22] Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, [23] Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Blue 1971 T-37
Orange 1972 K10
Blue 1969 C20
This is a snapshot from a normal day in the lives of Alwin and Lenora Stertz. Only one of those vehicles is still in the family but thankfully brothers Don (in the Nova) Ken (in foreground), and Bob (in K10 with family) are all still with us, married to the same women, and faithfully serving together at WBC. If you come out tomorrow to the car show, you’ll get to meet them and hear their stories!

The ONE that got away…

Is there a car in your past that you still wish you had? We would love to hear the story or description of the car in the comments below—bonus points for a picture.

Ken Stertz, who will be at the First Annual Car Show on Saturday (PLEASE JOIN US—only two days away!) was a strong young man back in 1969 and had saved his money for years with the intent of purchasing a new vehicle. In the spring, he drove over to West Side Garage in Berlin, WI to talk numbers with the local salesman concerning a new pickup truck. One thing led to another and the salesman told him about a new undisclosed model that Pontiac would soon be releasing called ”The JUDGE”. Said salesman convinced Ken that he didn’t need a truck but that the Judge would be a perfect fit for him. Ken struck a deal and paid $3600 cash for a brand new GTO Judge. It was equipped with a RA III engine, 4spd transmission, and hideaway headlights. Ken had that car up until 1976 when he sold it for $400 and a trade for a washer machine…

A BARN FIND!
Driving “Sonic”—Caleb’s 1970 GTO! Caleb has grown up in a Pontiac home and was brought home from the hospital after his birth in a 1969 GTO. I guess it’s fitting that he saved his hard earned dollars and has his own “Goat” 19 years later…Come out this Saturday for the first annual WCCS and check out Caleb’s car and hear the first hand account of how he got it running after 30 years in storage!

By request we are letting you know that 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place popular vote trophies will be up for grabs in these categories:

1900-1949
1950-1959
1960-1969
1970-1979
1980-1999
2000-Present
Street Rods
Muscle Cars
Imports
Trucks 1900-1972
Trucks 1973-Present
Tractors

In addition there will be: Kids Choice, Spectators Choice, Best of Show, and Pastor’s Choice.

The picture below was taken late winter 1973. Don Stertz had blown up the engine in his 1966 Tempest and needed immediate transportation. A local second hand auto dealer just happened to have this 1970 Bermuda Blue GTO. It was an ordinary looking machine but came equipped with a Ram Air IV 400 CID engine (desirable and rare), close ratio 4spd, and a 4.33 geared positraction rear end. Don said it was one of the fastest cars he ever drove up to about 110 mph! But, alas, there were no insurance companies willing to take a chance on the 20 year old driver in that car, at that time, and he sold it for $1900 (probably worth near $100K today😱).

Don is our guest speaker this year and I know that you’ll enjoy him sharing a couple of stories and then making some clear spiritual applications.

It’s official—the yard banner is up and the week of the show has FINALLY arrived!

Many thanks to Tim and Erica of Image 360, Inc. for working with us to get the banner designed and made in short order. They will also be supplying us with trophies and dash plaques for the first 200 cars entered in the show! If you haven’t worked with them before, I highly recommend their services.

ONE WEEK AWAY! The WCCS is almost here and we are gearing up for it. We are excited to have Eric Joss and his home built/restified 1966 Chevy Truck in attendance. It is a full on custom with too many cool features to list here. You have to see it in person. Eric bought it as a father/son project vehicle that he was planning to fix up “a little” and drive. Years of labor later, the truck before you was complete. We would love to see your classic or special interest vehicle. Please plan to clear your schedules for next weekend and join us!
