On Friday, November 22, Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT) will present the latest in its series of highly acclaimed Stand-Up Comedy Nights, featuring three NYC-based stand-up comedians known nationwide through their many TV and film appearances.

Headlining an outstanding evening will be veteran comic Ellen Karis. Karis is the “Greek Goddess of Comedy” and has performed stand-up comedy throughout North America. She has had three TV comedy specials, her latest on the Dry Bar Comedy Channel called “Dreams Don’t Come True.” She is the host of a weekly podcast, “Sweet and Salty with Ellen Karis,” which is in its ninth season, and has appeared on Amazon Prime’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Sisters, a film starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Karis is also the author of a children’s book, Special People: Godparents in the Orthodox Christian Faith.

The featured comic will be Tom Nemec, a working comedian and actor for over 20 years. He has appeared with a variety of well-known comics including Dom Irerra, Michael Winslow, Jim Norton and Kevin Nealon. Nemec can be seen as the fire chief in the movie "Green Point Tavern". He has appeared in a few different web series’ including "Bruber" and PN & Friends. Nemec has also created his own children's book, Owenopolis. A day in the life of a little boy from Brooklyn. He is currently working on a solo show called "A Cat in A Box" that is about the serious side of growing up in his dysfunctional family. 

Jim Mendrinos, the host for the evening, is returning from a successful WCT show in August. A staple of the NYC comedy scene, he has worked for David Letterman, The Tonight Show, The Chevy Chase Show, Head of the Class, and SNL. Mendrinos has performed on Comedy Central, Current TV, SiTV, HBO and the BBC and has an hour-long special, Not Dead Yet, on Amazon Video Direct. Chris Rock said of a Mendrinos program, “Living in Exile just might be the best funniest show I've ever seen." Author, by request, of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Comedy Writing (Alpha Press, © 2004), Mendrinos teaches TV Writing for Gotham Writers Workshop. 

The cabaret-style performance begins at 8:00 pm at WCT.

On Saturday November 16th, the Blake Rowe Trio featuring singer/songwriter/pianist Blake Rowe, will appear in Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT)’s Music in the Box series. Croton-On-Hudson based Rowe has an extensive performing and teaching career and performs a weekly podcast which attracts a wide local audience.

Rounding out the trio will be Julian Rowe on drums, Chris Conte on bass and some special surprise guests. 

Blake Rowe is a singer-songwriter, pianist, composer and educator. He recently retired after 35 years of teaching music for elementary grades at the Fieldston School in the Bronx, NY. He is the music director at the Unitarian Universalist congregation in Croton. He has released two award-winning albums of his songs for children, “It’s a Lazy Day” and “Circle of Life”, several recordings for solo piano and a piano improvisation podcast, “Piano Meditations”, which has over 300,000 downloads. 

The Blake Rowe Trio will play two sets starting at 7:30 at WCT’s black box performance space, 23 Water St., Ossining, NY. Cash bar and refreshments available.

On Saturday November 2nd, the Gary Smulyan trio featuring baritone saxophonist Gary Smulyan, a multiple time winner of the DownBeat Critics Poll, will appear in Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT)’s Music in the Box series. Smulyan has shared the stage and the recording studio with trumpeters Freddie Hubbard and Dizzy Gillespie, saxophonist Stan Getz, pianist Chick Corea, timbales king Tito Puente, and R&B/Blues and soul icons Ray Charles, B.B. King and Diana Ross. “Gary Smulyan’s lineage comes more from musicians like Cecil Payne, Leo Parker, Pepper Adams, Serge Chaloff and Nick Brignola – the few baritonists that dared to master the tricky, chromatic music known as bebop,” wrote All About Jazz’s Francis Lo Kee.
