Who else loves the Michigan History Center in downtown Lansing? Exactly 30 min from the Ovid Inn, and a great way to pass HOURS immersing yourself in the life of miners, indigenous people, veterans, outdoorsmen, homemakers, car manufacturers and moguls, and MORE from the 1700s and on. Currently a household membership is only $75, and grants you free admission. Did you know the State Capitol in Lansing was built in 1879, and the Ovid Inn (originally a horse tack factory!) was built in 1869? Wow! Feel free to drop any interesting historical facts about Ovid below, as we will use them on a new webpage at Ovidinn.com.

Question number 4 from the Business incubator application: How would the community be impacted by your business winning?

A: Any step we take that brings us closer to opening our Community Center is worth celebrating. Recent conversations with a mental health provider in Ovid provided alarming context as to the percentage of suicidal youth attending their previous support groups. The number was over 10 in 15. In today's society with often two parents at work, children are left without supervision for hours after school. The Chief of Police and current Mayor in Ovid state children are hungry, aimless, and getting in to trouble. I know that these benefits don't impact the St. Johns community directly, but any step the Ovid Inn takes to support our local community will in turn improve our chances of growing a local business that will encourage tourism (primarily through our wedding bookings from all over Michigan) and this is mutually beneficial for all. Lastly I'd like to state one overarching theme. The City of Ovid is due for a renaissance and we believe it has begun. This community needs a boost of positivity and energy. We hope to lead the way in bringing more attention to the charm of Main Street.
