UM Opera Theatre - Ole Miss UM Opera Theatre provides comprehensive training for the next generation of singing-actors ! Ford Performing Arts Center in 2003.

The nationally recognized Ole Miss Opera Theatre provides the opportunity for skill development in music, drama, movement, and design specifically related to opera performance. Fully staged productions include scenes and chamber opera each Fall and a full-length opera with orchestra each Spring. The Opera Theatre’s production of The Magic Flute was the first opera to be performed in the Gertrude C

We are thrilled to announce our 2024-2025 opera season: Perfect Matches: A Season of Love and Laughter. Join us for three lighthearted evenings of comic delight featuring UM Opera Theatre students and artists from across campus and the community.

We open the season this fall with “The Tie that Binds: Scenes of Love and Conflict” on Friday October 18 at 7:30 and Sunday October 20 at 3:00 in David H. Nutt Auditorium. It’s light-hearted, funny, and FREE!

Join us for an evening of spectacular solo singing at “An Evening of Arias” on November 19 at 7:30 in David H. Nutt Auditorium.

An Opera Double Feature at the Gertrude C. ford Center juxtaposes Haydn’s classical comedy “La canterina” (the songstress) with the contemporary masterpiece “The Beautiful Bridegroom”, music and libretto by Dan Shore.

Meet our director of Opera Theatre at Ole Miss!
Director of Opera Theatre Bonita Bunt has studied Music, Theatre, Musical Theatre, and English literature and is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she earned her Doctorate and Master of Music in Vocal Performance. Dr. Bunt recently completed a graduate certificate in Vocology, and is a Licensed Body Mapping Educator working to prevent pain and injury in performers through coordinate movement. Dr. Bunt has worked on over 35 shows in the Las Vegas Valley as performer, director, assistant director, and stage manager with many of the region’s local opera and theatre companies including Opera Las Vegas, Vegas City Opera, Super Summer Theatre, Voccalis International, Vegas Theatre Company, and Majestic Repertory Theatre. This summer she completed her 20th show with Opera Las Vegas. Favorite roles include Tytania in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Zerbinetta in Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos, Pernille in Dan Shore’s The Beautiful Bridegroom, the Nightingale in Ravel’s L’Enfant et les sortilèges, Edith in The Pirates of Penzance, The Queen of the Night, and Giannetta in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore.

Introducing our stage managers:
At the top-left-
Raey Bagley (They/Them) is the Instructional Assistant Professor of Stage and Production Management at the University of Mississippi’s department of Theatre and Film. They received their MFA in Stage Management from the University of Alabama. Raey has been a
professional stage manager for almost 20 years. They have worked in various regional, summer stock, community, corporate events, concerts, conventions, and more. They currently serve as the company Production Stage Manager for Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre. Some of Raey’s recent credits include Jersey Boys, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Alcina, and Il Barbiere de Siviglia. Currently they have been focusing on research for an advanced stage management book they are currently writing for
Routledge/Focal Press. Raey is also a member of IASTE, having worked on dozens of shows such as The Book of Mormon, Dancing with the Stars, Kinky Boots, and Disney on Ice.

Kaylee Williams is a part of the University of Mississippi’s Theatre and Film program and will graduate in May with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Acting. She has grown to love stage and production management and has studied under Raey Bagley for 1 year so far! She has been the Assistant Stage Manager for the University’s Mainstage show The Liar, she was the Stage Manager for Ghostlight Repertory Theatre’s production of The Ashen Crown and has been the Assistant Production Manager for the Department of Theatre and Film throughout the spring semester.

Áine Gilmartin is a Freshman double majoring in Theatre Arts and Sociology at the University of Mississippi. Her recent stage management credit was for the Department of Theatre and Film’s production of Silent Sky. She is incredibly excited for this opportunity to

Introducing our amazing costumer!
Ashley Moss enjoys creating costumes for the University of Mississippi Opera Theatre. She brings over 25 years of fashion design experience to her work and has relished learning about opera and costuming. Having lived in New York City for the bulk of her career, Ashley designed sportswear for Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, and Marithe & Francois Girbaud. Julia Aubrey
hired her for her first costume job in 2012 and Ashley
discovered new joy working in theater. She continues to pursue other creative avenues, including a bourgeoning pension for abstract painting. Ashley thanks Dr. Bonita Bunt and Professor AmandaJohnston for including her in this opera production!

Meet our lighting designer for our production of Turn of the Screw!

Annalise V. Caudle is a Theatrical Lighting Designer. Originally from DeSoto, Texas, she received her MFA from Texas State University. Annalise has worked regionally as both LD and ALD for companies such as Milwaukee Rep, Florida Rep, The Paramount Theatre, The Goodman, ZACH Theatre, and Maine State Music Theatre. She is thrilled to be joining the University of
Mississippi Theatre and Film faculty.

We are so excited to have Guest Artist Macey Trussel play our haunted Governess!

Macey Trussell is an operatic soprano based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Originally from Salem, Oregon, she received her Bachelor of Music degree from Oklahoma City University in April of 2022. At Oklahoma City University, she performed roles such as Rosalinde in Die
Fledermaus and Meg in Mark Adamo’s Little Women. She has been an active part in the Oklahoma City’s classical music community performing in operas, concerts, and outreach programs. She participated in the prestigious Leona Mitchell Master Class in 2022, where she had the privilege of receiving guidance from the legendary soprano herself. Her outstanding vocal abilities have been acknowledged by the Oklahoma Ladies Music Club Voice competition, the Naftzger Young Artist program, and the NATSAA Texoma Region competition. Trussell's
dedication to her craft has been recognized by the Oklahoma District Classical Treble Voice competition, where she has consistently placed among the top performers. She made her professional debut as the comprimario role in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, singing Kate Pinkerton. Macey Trussell returned to the stage, performing the role of Sharon Graham in Terence McNalley’s Master Class with Lyric Theater of OKC. After covering roles of Mimi in La Boheme and Micaela in Carmen, Trussell went on to sing the role of the Governess in Benjamin Britten’s Turn of the Screw at Painted Sky Opera. She is excited to sing the role once
more alongside the talented performers of University of Mississippi. Currently, Macey Trussell is studying with her voice teacher, Dr.Catherine McDaniel while remaining actively involved in the fine arts community. She plans to complete her Masters degree in vocal performance in
future years.

Meet our Mrs. Grose!

Kristina Tullgren, soprano, is a first-year graduate student pursuing her Masters in Vocal Performance at The University of Mississippi. Kristina completed her Bachelor of Music at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where she performed the roles of Mrs. Grose in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, Juno in Orpheus in the Underworld, Rose in Jake Heggie’s At the Statue of Venus, and cover for Madame Lidoine in Dialogues of the Carmelites. Her most recent performances include the soprano solo in Mozart’s Vesperae solennes de confessore in Atlanta, GA, soprano solo in Mozart’s Krönungsmesse in C with the Las Vegas Sinfonietta and Las Vegas Master Singers, and as Marcellina in Georgia State University’s Opera Theater's production of Le nozze di Figaro.

In addition to performing, Kristina is also engaged behind the scenes as a stage manager for University of Nevada, Las Vegas Opera Theater and Opera Las Vegas productions. Kristina is a student of Dr. Jos Milton.

Meet Lucy Elfert who will capture the role of Miles!

Soprano Lucy Elfert is a freshman at Ole Miss from Ridgeland, MS in the studio of Dr. Jos Milton. Before coming to Ole Miss, Lucy had the opportunity to perform with the Honors Performance Series in Carnegie Hall twice. She also played multiple roles in theatre productions such as her favorites, the Somewhere Soloist in “West Side Story” and Fredonia Custardine in “While the Lights Were Out”. She also won first place at MMTA State, and received multiple
finalizations for musical theatre solos at the state level. She is majoring in Vocal Performance and also a part of the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College at Ole Miss. This summer Lucy will perform the role of the Sandman in Humperdinck’s Hansel und Gretel with Varna International.

Meet Emily Clements who will embody the role of Flora!

Soprano and composer Emily Clements is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas studying primarily vocal performance with extensive composition studies. Opera Las Vegas included Clement’s award-winning opera Letters to Lily in its 2022 Women Composers Festival to great acclaim. This performance won first place in The American Prize for new works with Social Justice themes and third place in the category New Operas at a University/College Level. Clements is currently finishing her Masters of Music in Vocal Performance at the University of Mississippi studying with Dr. Jos Milton. Some of her recent role credits include Flora in The Turn of the Screw, Morgana in Alcina and Serpina in La Serva Padrona. She has presented and performed at the National Opera Association conference, performed opera roles with the
Harrower Program, Druid City Opera, Opera Las Vegas, Vegas City Opera, and Musik Theatre Bavaria, and originated the role of Felicity in Linda Lister’s premiere of State of Grace with UNLV Opera. Ms. Clements will attend Binghamton University in the fall for a Masters degree in Music Composition while continuing her voice studies.
