Mission Blue is a Pacifica-based band delivering traditional bluegrass flavored with classic folk and country material reinterpreted into the bluegrass style. If you are a bluegrass fan, you’ll be more than satisfied with the band’s faithfulness to this uniquely American music form. If you are new to bluegrass, you’ll find Mission Blue’s performances an accessible and enjoyable introduction.
The band has been entertaining audiences in California and Oregon since 2018 and is led by the dad and daughter duo of Avram and Dana Frankel. Mission Blue’s coastside roots run deep. Dana was raised in Pacifica, began playing fiddle at the age of 5, and is recognized as the one of the top bluegrass fiddlers in California. Avram, a longtime fixture on the California bluegrass scene, served on the Pacifica School District governing board when the district transferred the old Sanchez Elementary School to the City of Pacifica. This act facilitated the creation of what is now the Pacifica Center for the Arts, which houses both the Sanchez Art Center and Mildred Owen Concert Hall (The Hall), home of Pacifica Performances. Dana and Avram are joined by Sam Reed on banjo and David Thiessen on mandolin from Sonoma County who both grew up playing bluegrass with Dana. Veteran doghouse bass man Tom Sours, also of Sonoma County, rounds out the group. Buckle up for an evening of hard driving and heartfelt acoustic music!

Jeff Sanford's Cartoonjazz Orchestra
Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 7:30 pm
From the beloved Saturday morning antics of Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck in the 40s and 50s to today’s inspired anime, they express wild swings of energy and emotion, explosive triumphs, and deserved defeats.

One element of the cartoons that we’ve recently recognized is the genius of the music that underscores them, a mash-up of classical, jazz, pop, folk, and everything in between. This is highly adventurous music, rich and complex, swinging, and supremely well played by Jeff Sanford’s Cartoonjazz Orchestra.

THE SOUL DELIGHTS began on a dare from a mutual friend in 2007, gathering singers and players into a new group dedicated to soul music, Motown, pop, and other selected musical gems from roughly the late ‘50s to the mid-70’s. The three singers, Keta Bill, Katie Guthorn, and Kathy Kennedy have been singing together since 1983 (Zasu Pitts Memorial Orchestra/Big Bang Beat), and worked with Todd Swenson (guitar) in that band and others. Tim Wagar (bass) and Ken Owen (drums) are music pals from many projects.
We are so looking forward to returning to Pacifica and seeing everybody after what seems like forever! There will be lots of your favorite songs to dance to and an excellent dance floor, so please come on down.

Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 7:30
Billy Philadelphia has lived and played piano in the Bay Area for 50 years. He is also the Artistic Director of Pacifica Performances. He has worked in bands of all kinds, musical directed shows in theaters from Santa Rosa to San Francisco, deeply explored the Great American Song Book in the intimacy of cabaret primarily with his wife, noted singer/actress Meg Mackay, and acted onstage and in commercials. He is most proud of opening the 2012 Victory Parade for the SF Giants on a calliope towed by a golf cart. Ms Mackay will sit in for a couple of tunes. The trio includes Carla Kaufman on bass and Rob Gibson on drums. Tickets are on sale now on our website:https://pacificaperformances.org/billy-philadelphia-trio/

Mildred Owen Hall’s own Little Big Band returns with a performance featuring a wide variety of styles. Our music reflects each band members’ musical experience, spanning from the 1950’s to the early 2000’s.
