Did you know Bearded dragons have a third eye?
While not containing an eyeball, the third eye, also called the parietal eye, on the top of their head acts as a sensor, alerting them to light, dark, shadows and UV light. This comes in handy for them to sense if a predator is approaching from behind or above, and to sense the change from day to night or to sense out a good basking spot.

Bearded dragons also have very good long-distance eye site, and can see more colors than humans! Their night vision is lacking though, making them primarily active during the day.

Had a fantastic time with Space Coast Academics Co-op homeschool group! We talked about leopard geckos, spiny-tailed lizards, bearded dragons, Boa constrictors and Ball pythons! They also learned the importance of proper animal husbandry, the danger of invasive species in our environment, and why reptiles are so good to have in nature.

I love working with homeschool groups like this, as I was homeschooled myself. I can remember seeing similar shows and knowing I wanted to be a part of it when I was an adult, so I'm making it happen!

With the new year approaching Iā€™m excited to start making new goals for the business! I wonā€™t share what Iā€™m working on just yet, but 2025 will be an exciting year!

And I want to hear from you though! What things would you like to see us do next year? New animals? New type of shows? Alternative meet and greets like ā€œpainting with snakesā€? Give me some ideas!

Introducing Admiral Alfredo!

Alfredo is a Leucistic ball python, also called a Blue Eyed Lucy.

Leucistic animals are rare and are similar to albino animals. The conditions remove the ability for the cells to develop melanin, which is the natural pigmentation that gives skin, feathers, hair, and eyes their darker colors. Full albinism will affect the eyes and cause them to be red in color. For leucistic animals, their eyes maintain a striking blue color. While animals with these conditions are rare in the wild, captive breeding has increased their numbers. So while animals with these conditions are still considered rare, we are seeing them more frequently in captivity.

ā€œRehoming because my kids lost interestā€

I see this as a reason for rehoming animals soooooo often! Iā€™ve had people reach out to me to adopt my rescues for their kids as gifts, and I wonā€™t do it! Children are not capable of caring for reptiles the way they need to be and will not be prepared for the life span most of them have. Animals are not gifts and any parent getting an animal ā€œfor their kidsā€ needs to also make sure they themselves want the animal and will continue to care for the animal after the child looses interest.

That being said, there are *some* kids who are passionate about animals and could provide a good home. If youā€™d like tips to know if your child is actually ready for a pet, please feel free to message me and Iā€™ll share with you the things to ask your child to determine if they are capable of caring for an animal.
