“Rehoming because my kids lost interest”

I see this as a reason for rehoming animals soooooo often! I’ve had people reach out to me to adopt my rescues for their kids as gifts, and I won’t do it! Children are not capable of caring for reptiles the way they need to be and will not be prepared for the life span most of them have. Animals are not gifts and any parent getting an animal “for their kids” needs to also make sure they themselves want the animal and will continue to care for the animal after the child looses interest.

That being said, there are *some* kids who are passionate about animals and could provide a good home. If you’d like tips to know if your child is actually ready for a pet, please feel free to message me and I’ll share with you the things to ask your child to determine if they are capable of caring for an animal.

It’s never easy to lose a pet, regardless of the kind of pet. As a pet lover and owner, I dedicate my time, love, and resources to providing the best care possible for these animals. Even when everything is done right, nature sometimes has other plans. 😭

Rest in peace my sweet baby Saffron. While your life was unexpectedly short, it was filled with love. I may never know what took you from me but I will always remember you and the joy you brought to my life. 🖤

On this golden land, they wait and they play, Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day. No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness, For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness. 🌈

Meet Cinnamon! Cinnamon is a Crest Gecko and is almost a year old. It’s assumed it’s a male but he has not been officially sexed yet so that may change. These gecko’s are native to islands around Australia and Fiji. They love tropical environements and climbing, their sticky toes helping them climb almost anything. They can live 15-20 years with proper care and grow to lengths of 8-10 inches. I’m excited to add this guy (or girl) to my shows! He just needs to stop being so jumpy first. 😅

This little guy is growing slowly but surely! By 2025 he’ll be ready for shows!

This is Saffron, a Savannah Monitor! Don’t let his small size fool you, he’ll be a big boy once he’s full grown, reaching at least 3.5 feet long and 15lbs if not bigger!

Wondering why you see more and more wild animals and reptiles around your home? Don’t forget, it was their home first. With mass production of housing communities and new buildings going up every day, the more land cleared leaves less homes for our wild friends. Please be kind to the animals you see outside, they need homes too and we keep taking their natural habitats away, so they are adjusting the only way they can.

Fun tortoise history fact!

The story goes:
In 1835, on an excursion in the Galápagos Islands, it is alleged that Charles Darwin collected a Galapagos tortoise and named it Harry. Harry was later transferred to England, where in 1960 it was discovered to be a female and renamed Harriet. She was then transferred to a zoo in Australia, founded by Steve Irwin’s parents. Steve Irwin continued to care for and love Harriet until her death in 2006, the same year Irwin had his fatal encounter with the stingray.

Harriet reached an estimated age of 175 years old.

While there is debate about the locations and timeline for Harriet’s travels, the base of the story remains true, that Charles Darwin and Steve Irwin both cared for the same Galapagos tortoise.

Fun snake fact!

As humans, we have 700-800 muscles in our body. Most snakes, even the smallest ones, can have anywhere from 10,000 to 15,000! These intricate muscles allow the snakes to be stealthy, quick, and strong. They can hold their heads in an upright position for long periods of time and some snakes can reach speeds of 10-12mph. The king cobra, the strongest constrictor in the world, can squeeze hard enough to stop a human heart. Most snakes can strike in 40-70 milliseconds, which is half the time it takes to blink. Their strikes are so strong, that the snake faces forces up to 30g’s! That’s enough force to make someone blackout from a strike. In comparison, fighter jet pilots only face 10g forces before blacking out.

Please note, the below video shows examples of these muscles in action, and does show brief moments of strikes during feedings. Viewer discretion is advised.
