Fun snake fact!
As humans, we have 700-800 muscles in our body. Most snakes, even the smallest ones, can have anywhere from 10,000 to 15,000! These intricate muscles allow the snakes to be stealthy, quick, and strong. They can hold their heads in an upright position for long periods of time and some snakes can reach speeds of 10-12mph. The king cobra, the strongest constrictor in the world, can squeeze hard enough to stop a human heart. Most snakes can strike in 40-70 milliseconds, which is half the time it takes to blink. Their strikes are so strong, that the snake faces forces up to 30gās! Thatās enough force to make someone blackout from a strike. In comparison, fighter jet pilots only face 10g forces before blacking out.
Please note, the below video shows examples of these muscles in action, and does show brief moments of strikes during feedings. Viewer discretion is advised.
