In April, Tennessee pasted a state law that allows wedding officiants to deny LGBTQIAS+ and a bi-racial couple services! Couples experiencing discrimination for wedding services is not new. Since 2015, I have advocated for inclusive awareness education in the wedding, travel and event industries. As a DEI educator, it has taken 9 years, and here we are!
People learn in different styles, and I've learn to meet people where they are. Hugs For Pride 2024 is the first Pride event hosted by the Palm Springs Association for Catering and Events DEI committee. Hugs For Pride 2024 will bring together an industry needing to continually elevate it's inclusive awareness and learn how to support those individuals in the industry that make weddings and events fun and fabulous. 🙂
The majority of employed LGBTQIAS+ individuals mute their authenticity at work for fear of backlash from co-workers. The same can be said for wedding and event professionals.
In 2018, Sara Cunningham made headlines, as the Stand-in Mom" in PEOPLE MAGZINE, after her post went viral, “PSA: If you need a mom to attend your same-sex wedding because your biological mom won’t, call me. I’m there. I’ll be your biggest fan. I’ll even bring the bubbles.”
Sara stepped in when many turned their backs on LGBTQIAS+ couples. Sara will be the Hugs For Pride Keynote Speaker.
Educating and teaching inclusive awareness to professionals can be a challenge. Most people think their inclusive, but I remind them, you don't know what you don't know.
Hugs For Pride 2024, is fundraiser benefiting Free Mom Hugs. An industry giving back to the LGBTQIAS+ community.

A community of individuals and businesses that recognize the importance of inclusive awareness in the wedding, travel, and event industries is needed to support a groundbreaking event like Hugs For Pride 2024.

Hugs For Pride 2024 is a fundraiser for Free Mom Hugs, a nonprofit supporting the LGBTQ+ community with over 40K volunteers worldwide!

Hugs For Pride 2024 is a celebration of you, the ones who make weddings, travel, and events fun and fabulous. It's a platform that brings together and recognizes our industry allies, highlighting their invaluable contributions.

The majority of employed LGBTQIA+ individuals remain closeted at work. We also recognize that many wedding, travel, and event professionals remained closed themselves for fear of others. Many do not feel safe working openly as their authentic selves in their industry!

Allies are those who would protect you when you’re not in the room.

Allies are those who take action above words when demonstrating inclusive practices.
