🌟 Groundbreaking Tales: A Year of Growth and Renovation 🌟

WOW, how fast a year goes! Last week we celebrated ONE YEAR of ownership or Panorama Gardens. Over the past 12 months, we’ve poured everything we can into making this the best floral shop and garden center in Central Iowa.

We had fun this week reflecting on the hundreds of renovation pictures and picked a few to share. Our renovation thus far has touched all areas of the property, inside, outside, walls, floors, and roofs! We are far from done but will continue to work towards a "Grand-Reopening" this Spring.

A couple of our highlights:
1️⃣ Brought on a full-time Floral Manager and several part-time designers. Our focus on being the absolute best florist is unmatched.
2️⃣ Implemented new software that allows us to better serve and understand customer needs.
3️⃣ Transformed outdoor areas into more captivating and distinctive spaces that beautifully showcase plants and outdoor living products while also serving as inviting spots for community gatherings.

While living it every single day, it is easy to forget just how much work has been done. However, your supportive comments, advice, and feedback is much appreciated and keeps us motivated. Thank you for your support!

While the weather was cold this week, we marveled at the incredible growth of a tropical Zebrina plant that started as a SINGLE cutting back in March. This cutting was planted and basically left alone until now; look at that growth!!

But it wasn’t just plants on my mind this week! We also picked up 243 pounds of 🐷 from our friends at Downing's Farm to Fork, who worked with Guthrie County Quality Meats for butchering. Both of these local companies do an awesome job, and we can’t recommend them enough.

"Pork and Plants" related well to a great podcast I listed to this week by Shaan Puri and Sam Parr. They highlighted two exciting shifts in the market, both centered around health and wellbeing:

#1 A growing desire for houseplants to help cleanse the air in homes. With all the inside time we have this winter, making fresh and clean air inside a priority is hugely important! (hint, hint—we’ve got you covered with this one🌱).

AND

#2 A movement toward knowing the sources of our food and supporting local producers. Not only does this support our local economy, but more importantly actually KNOWING the source of our food ensures we are eating good for us food. Have you read an ingredient label on your favorite processed food recently?!

Both trends reflect a deeper connection to a healthier lifestyle, and our business and community at large is uniquely positioned to support these goals. Whether it’s through vibrant, air-purifying plants or high-quality, locally sourced food (including those Panorama Gardens sourced garden plants this spring), the answers are right here in central Iowa!

We are growing at Panorama Gardens and looking to bring someone new onboard starting immediately!

Schedule will likely be a few days a week after school hours. Must have valid drivers license. Responsibilities will include general retail, next day prep, cleaning, plant care, etc. Also looking to get this person involved with our floral team working with our designers on floral arrangements.

This week, we bring you a snapshot from the field—or rather, the road! Here’s our trusty delivery van braving one of Iowa’s Level B roads, a scene that truly embodies our commitment to getting your arrangements where they need to go, no matter the weather or terrain.

But what exactly is a Level B road?

Iowa’s road classification system has its roots in the 1970s when counties were given the ability to designate roads based on maintenance levels. Level B roads, often gravel or dirt, receive minimal upkeep and are typically reserved for rural areas with low traffic. These roads, while charmingly rustic, can pose a challenge during heavy rain, snow, or spring thaw when mud and ruts take over. Ask me how I know… as a high schooler with a pickup I spent many nights driving muddy Level B roads 😅

Their history is deeply tied to the agricultural backbone of Iowa, ensuring that even the most secluded homesteads stay connected.
