Housed in two beautiful historic buildings on the main street of rural Paonia, Colorado, the Blue Sage is a hub where teachers, students, artists and entertainers join to share their passions and talents. A community-driven arts and education center, the Blue Sage provides a venue where anyone can plan an event large or small, teach a class, put on a play, arrange a concert, or schedule a talk on

myriad subjects ranging from recent travel to astrophysics. A key direction for the Blue Sage is the provisions of classes designed to help the community’s youth to gain job skills and experience through participation in varied work-study programs at the center and its art gallery. We’re also committed to developing meaningful programming for families, adults and young children. At the the heart of this multi-faceted center is its volunteers of all ages, from all walks of life and with so many varied interests and the affordability of programs so that all can participate.

Join us this Sunday Dec 15th at 7pm for an incredible night of classical music! This is the final Blue Sage Concert Series of 2024. Read along to meet all the talented musicans who will be joining Nick Carozza that evening. Tickets sold online or in the gallery.

Nick Carozza, is a musician currently based in Las Vegas, Nevada. He is the oboist with Red Rock Quintet and is pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts at U.N.L.V. with Dr. Stephen Caplan. An experienced orchestral musician, he has performed with many notable orchestras. He was also awarded 1st Place in the 2023 and 2024 Nevada Music Teachers Association Young Artist Woodwind Competition.

Rebekah Carozza, from Grand Junction, Colorado, is a soprano and music educator. She currently performs with the Las Vegas Masters Singers. As an opera singer, Rebekah sang the title role Little Red in Barab’s Little Red Riding Hood and as chorus member in Suor Angelica with Colorado Mesa University. She is currently a music educator with Clark County School District in Las Vegas Nevada, where she resides with her husband Nick.

Maxwell Reilly, a native of Grand Junction, Colorado, is a distinguished pianist and composer with a passion for both classical and contemporary genres. Maxwell currently serves as a collaborative pianist and adjunct faculty at Colorado Mesa University, contributing his talents to the theater and music departments.

Justin G. Russell Jr. Maternally Irish born for Tsi’naajinii. Fourth Generation Diné Silversmith, Bassist, Composer, and Cultural Preservationist. Owner of Russell Trading Company since 2020. Current ensembles include the Grand Junction Symphony and Mariachi San Jose.

Brandon Martinez is a Violist from Las Vegas, Nevada.  He graduated from the Las Vegas Academy of the Performing Arts in may of 2024 And is now pursuing a bachelors degree in Viola Performance and Music Education at UNLV.

"Hard Pressed (Cory Obert and Andrea Lecos) is a marriage of two lives, of a husband and wife, of a fiddle and banjo, and beautifully blended harmonies. While performing at the same festival, Andrea and her banjo met Cory and his fiddle and a short while later they were married. They play at a variety of old times streamband and Americana folk, both traditional and original Corey was with. The well-known locally based but national touring band sweet sunny, South, for 10 years, Andrea played with many touring artists that originated out of Durango Colorado.They will be joined by Jeff Reynolds on bass. Drop in a coin and be entertained, and maybe they won't be so "hard-pressed" after a while!"

A closer look at the reduction block print process with Sherrie York and her new piece "Stillness" here on display at the Blue Sage. 🌿 For the next month, we have the incredible, colorful, detailed hand pulled reduction block prints of former Colorado resident and nationally recognized artist Sherrie York. Take a step by step look into the intricacies of forming a captivating print here! What is this? A reduction linocut is a block printing technique that involves carving a design into a single linoleum block and printing multiple layers of color on top of each other. The entire edition must be printed in one go because you can't go back to print more after carving into the block. Incredible, right?! We think so too.

The Western Colorado Community Foundation awarded the grant from the WEC Fund to directly support our gallery in bringing more art related opportunities to our community!
