EPIC WEDDING for my “baby brother” and his gorgeous wife! 😍
Where do I even begin? From their private vows with their first look, to their visit from Trump (👀😂), their 88 year old Amazing flower girl (and pup Baxter as the ringbearer!), popcorn at ABP, All The Blooming Trees!…celebrating with an amazing group of family and friends, and dancing the night away with … with special guest - this day couldn’t have gone any better! Love you Mr. And Mrs. Brekke!!

Eeek!! Sorry it’s been a little quiet here lately, it has been incredibly busy!🥰 We’ve gotten to meet lots of new little babies (and more to come!), play with so many sweet kiddos, and kicked off wedding season this past weekend—as we gear up for lots of sessions this coming weekend!

I was able to be present for this sweet one’s birth (and she’s got a pretty awesome name 😍) … Willow’s family brought their heirloom cradleboard again (like they had with big brother Ayden!), but also brought a birch basket that had a willow branch woven into the top, and her star blanket that was made by auntie!😍 I absolutely love when people bring such meaningful things to incorporate into their sessions!

I had the honor of photographing her big sister’s maternity/newborn session, and then her’s as well!😍 I just adore when I get the privilege of seeing families back/growing!!🥰 this little babe was one of the most alert/attentive babies I’ve photographed (you may not know it in these photos, as we finally got her nice and sleepy😂) but I do love some of those intense shots we get to catch in baby’s awake cycle!😍

I met McKenna and Waylon in August 2023, when I was called to photograph their perfect 17 week baby Hayes.

2 weeks ago today, I received a text from McKenna that their 22 week baby Lennyn had been born that morning into the arms of Jesus, and McKenna wondered if I’d be able to come and photograph Hayes’ baby sister; I told her I’d be there as quickly as possible that evening.

I sat in my car and wept.
For the “what ifs” and “why does this happen”, but also for the shared grief. There is simply no way to understand the pain of losing your child — until you lose one.

McKenna and Waylon have grieved so gracefully, I cannot even put it into words. The love that they have showered on both of their babies in the time that they’ve been able to spend with each of them is one of the most powerful things I’ve ever been a part of as a photographer.

People always ask me “what’s your favorite thing to photograph?” And my reply is always easy - birth/babies; but what I often don’t have the opportunity to share is that means the birth of Any child, including our babies without heartbeats. The indescribable love every mom and dad has for their child even right at birth is so evident, there is simply nothing more beautiful to bear witness to.

On my way to meet Lennyn I texted McKenna photos of the sunset, and we both agreed - our babies paint the most beautiful sunsets for us up there with Jesus.

I do not have the answers as to why some of us have to endure trials such as these, but I do know that we have a Father who created us, loves us and wants to comfort us through anything we experience … I truly believe it’s that same indescribable love I see in parents’ faces when they first lay eyes on their perfect children🤍

McKenna and Waylon thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for asking me in to such a sacred and special space with your sweet Lennyn, and allowing me to share her with others!

I met this mama in a less conventional way when she was in need of a photographer for her [oldest] newborn son….fast forward a few years, and I’ve had the blessing of not only photographing him as he’s grown, but now had the privilege of photographing the newest little addition to their sweet family (we even got to use the same cute little couch and do some of the same poses we had done with his big brother!🥰) the love that this mama has for her sons is so beautiful❤️.1993 thank you for entrusting me to freezing this moment in time for you guys!😍

My children were the reason behind starting Whispering Willow Photography 13 years ago, as I saw the importance of capturing not only the milestones of babies and children, but also the seasons of growth through graduations/engagements/weddings/births - you name it - and I am so thankful when my children now ask to have me capture a photo for them!❤️

Also- shoutout to and for the instruction and guidance Espen is receiving to further develop these skills!

Happy New Year friends! Sorry it’s been quiet the last few weeks-our life has been Full with lots of time spent with our kids, family and friends!❤️

Vilomah [veel-oh-maa] • noun
From the Sanskrit origin meaning; “against the natural order”. Used to describe a parent, who’s child has died.

Pregnancy and Infant Loss. October 15th is deemed the “official” remembrance day, with the month of October being the “awareness” month. But grief isn’t tied to just a day or a month when you’ve experienced this sort of loss, or know someone who has. Baby Hayes was my 39th stillborn baby I’ve photographed. I have cried with and for every one of these babies and their families.

I have also been blessed to cry happy tears with these families when they have their “rainbow baby”, but that doesn’t erase the pain they’ve first experienced with their loss. If you know someone who has lost a child, one of the most helpful things I’ve found after experiencing a 15 week loss of our own with Sawyer is Speak their baby’s name. Talk about them and ask how mom/dad/siblings/grandparents are coping. It’s our way as loss parents to keep our babies alive to the outside world, because in our lives they haven’t “gone” anywhere; our babies just aren’t physically here for us to hold.

Thank you to baby Hayes’ parents for their permission to share photos of their beautiful and perfect 17 week old baby.
