Some folks have asked why it takes so long to get their wedding film done. No worries! We’re here to answer all of those questions. Here is a small breakdown as to why getting you your edited wedding film takes so much time.

1. Editing Time: Its not necessarily the amount of time it takes to actually edit the film. The actual editing editing time only takes a couple of work days. As you’ll see from the next few bullet point, it’s mostly about how long it takes to get to the footage.

2. Copying: The time it takes to actually copy footage alone is could be around 1.5 to 3 hours. That is from the camera card to the computer. In addition to that, the footage needs to be backed up to a second hard drive which takes the same amount of time.

3. Raw Exporting: At JL Wedding Films, we supply every client with their raw footage, so this also takes several hours to complete. The footage is compiled into an MPEG file straight to you, so it acts as a back up on the cloud, while also being able to be used by the client to view.

4. Hard Drive Space: In the mix of copying and exporting, space must be made for upcoming and current projects. This is also a process that takes about 1-2 workdays.

5. The Queue: After this process is done, well its to get to editing the actual highlight films. Except, there is always a back catalog reaching back usually about 2 months. This is where the real delay comes in. With all the time and resources, and list of things to do, it takes typically about 2-3 months to get to edit a wedding that happened 2-3 months prior if it’s busy season. In winter/spring this time is usually a bit shorter. It’s more like a month and a half to two months.

6. Editing Time: Once it comes time to edit your film, the footage actually requires additional rendering to make the process smooth and efficient. After that, its smooth sailing. The editing process takes about 1 to 2 business days.

7. Savings and Cost: At JL Wedding Films, we only have a small team of editors and a few work stations which in turn, keeps the cost down for the client. If we had a large editing department, then yes, we could get your film out much quicker. But we pride ourselves in delivering a quality product at a cost friendly rate. This is why we prefer to keep it small. At least for now.
