JACARANDA....My FAVORITE Tree!!!

Known for their stunning purple/blue flowers and native to South America!
Did you know these trees can reach heights of up to 50feet or more?

They have a spreading, wide crown with branches that form an umbrella-like shape. The leaves are fern-like and pinnate, with multiple leaflets. They produce clusters of vibrant, trumpet-shaped blossoms in shades of purple, lavender, or blue, creating a breathtaking display when in full bloom!

The Jacaranda blooms in late spring, early summer! This one bloomed a bit late but being it's only a year old, I am thrilled with how many trumpets it's carrying.
When the leaves fall, we will enjoy a carpet of vibrant hues on the ground, adding to the tree's visual appeal!

Creating a Rustic Wine Barrel Sink in Paradise!

It began with an old wine barrel that was being thrown away.
With a little Tender Loving Care I came up with a design and my Sink Barrel project began!

The design part was fun! Each morning I would wake up with my pen, a cup of coffee, and notepad, and have a stare-down with the barrel. I finally came up with a design that I liked and decided to give it a go!

The next big step was cutting out the hole for the sink. The copper sink I bought had a paper stencil I could use to precisely measure out the hole on top of the barrel. I used a skill-saw to make my initial cuts and eventually had a perfectly shaped space to place the sink basin into.

Next, I found a classic oak colored wood stain that matched beautifully with the copper sink and hardware. After the stain was set, I coated a few layers of polyurethane on top to make sure that it was sealed and waterproof. Lastly, cutting the door.

Before cutting, I had to make sure that all the metal loops holding the wood together, were secure and nailed in place. I found some really sweet black decor nails that I used to secure each rim into the wood. After the rings were set into place, the cutting of the wood began.

I started the cut with a hand-held circular saw. I used this tool to cut the long edges of the door, and finishing off each corner with a hand-saw. We the door was finally cut, I added hinges and secured a pull-knob on the front. It was ready for plumbing installation!

Plumbing was a little easier.with a garden hose to bring water in, and a 1-inch clear tubing to release grey water right into my banana trees. With the water run-off going straight back to the farm, my bananas are very happy!=)

Paradise Gardens composts as a sustainable practice. This involves the natural decomposition of organic matter into nutrient-rich soil that can be used to improve the health of plants and gardens. It's an excellent way to reduce waste, conserve resources, and promote sustainable living.

Composting is an effective way to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in the landfills. Food scraps and yard waste can account for up to 30% of the waste that households generate.

As a sustainable practice, finding used park benches that need tender loving care prevents them from going into the landfill. Some need total restoration, others just need to be cleaned, sanded, stained, painted and sealed. Quite a job, but so worth the results!
