With the recent events in our country, I feel that it is up to us, all of us, to show that there is light in the world. That people just want to love, be loved and to celebrate life. This is the very driving force in why we work here at the farmstead. It’s what keeps us motivated and why we enjoy our job. It’s also why families come here, as they too want a place to celebrate love and life. We need to create and give that spark that lights up what’s good in our world.

With that intent in mind, we will begin hosting weddings in July. There will of course be some changes in operation as we take guidance from the Ford county health dept. The wedding families will be contacted with these changes so that they can address their guests. None of these changes will be drastic. The nice thing is since this is a barn and activities are outdoors, there is room to spread out and keep our distancing as directed by the Illinois dept of health.

To that, Cheers! We’re having weddings again!!!!

When can we host weddings?

I receive that question in my inbox daily. My answer is I'm hopeful for July, but I really don't know.
Recently, our county (Ford) made a proclamation stating every business in the county can open under the guidance of the county health dept. This is indeed helpful with that we all want to be certain we can operate safely.
But the big question looming is what phase will our governor say we will be at in a month, two months, three months, etc.?How does that phase determine how we can operate? In phase 4 all outdoor activities are allowed. Would activities here be interpreted as an outdoor event? Could we reach phase 4 by July?
I'm hopeful that we can address the above concerns within the upcoming weeks and figure out a plan to be able to host July weddings.

Due to the recommendations from the CDC to not have events or mass gatherings and the order from the Illinois Governor to limit crowds to 50, we will be changing the dates of all events within the next eight weeks. This will not be like the MLB where we shift everyone's date back. Those of you with events beyond the eight weeks will not be affected unless the CDC recommendation or the governor order extends into that time. We are already in communication with those within the eight week time and providing availability to reschedule their dates.

Kyler and Courtney got married!!!!!
I don't know what to write because it's just too awesome. Both of them work or have worked here, they got engaged here, now married here. One thing (and I feel the rest of us that work here would agree), we're all in a sense a family here and it's just overwhelming joy to be part of it. The barn looked spectacular, the weather (albeit cold) really wasn't that bad for Illinois, just a great day.

Saturday we celebrated our 50th. wedding at the farm! It was a beautiful day to host a wedding. We wish David and Jen all the best life has to give.

I'm just going to throw this information out to hopefully help the couples that got engaged over the holidays. We are a very unique property. The largest actual barn in a wide area, plus the restored farmhouse to use for three days. Which is why the farmstead has become a destination wedding for many, hosting families from states away.
Last year we ended up fully booked. We are already mostly booked full for the 2018 year. From May onto Christmas there is very few dates left. We're also already well on our way into booking 2019. The fall months fill up fast, followed by spring, then we have the couples that like to have a summer evening or Christmas wedding.
So if you're in the decision making process now, probably don't want to take too long at it before someone else grabs your date.

I will say, after hosting a lot of weddings, it's tough to truly say "wow, that's something I've never seen before and it looks amazing". Until now. What a fantastic job decorating the barn for a Christmas wedding. More pictures to come.

Today is the official start of the Christmas season! As promised to many, we have decorated the barn for Santa's arrival. Also as promised, if you have been married at the farm or are booked to get married, you can contact Stephanie Herges Photography and schedule a family photo session in the barn and get a CD with your photos for only $100. For those of you whom haven't gotten married at the farm and would still like to have photos there, you may contact Stephanie for special pricing and scheduling.

I know I've been slacking on posts. But today on this day of giving thanks, we want to say thank you to everyone whom has made the farmstead a success this year. Also a thank you to the many great families whom make our jobs worthwhile. The entire Engelbrecht family is very thankful for everyone whom worked hard at the farm. Especially since we were fully booked. Phew, that was a lot of work.

So a few things on the last post. First, thank you to Stephanie Herges for the photography work. As you see a very talented photographer. Second, as you may have noticed, we are now offering horses! We're very excited to have teamed up with Rachel Forrest-Weckel. The horses will be at the farm from rehearsal with all the way through the wedding. And just the way you seen Yulia ride in, the brides will have the ability to ride side saddle or western style into their own wedding.
Rachel is known for her excellent horsemanship skills and the star horse is Ferdinand, who has taken the title of World Appaloosa Champion.
We also plan in the near future to offer the bride to arrive on the horse drawn buggy. And if the bride and groom want to have a little break, trailrides.
This is a very immersive and personal expeience, and we're very happy to now offer it.
