Coach Deshone (Bombay) Higginbottom :
Coach of the Year (2025)

Coach Deshone “Bombay” Higginbottom is the proud recipient of Pearl Boxing Club’s 2025 Coach of the Year Award—a well-deserved honor.

Coach Bombay has been instrumental in growing Pearl Boxing Club into what it is today. He spends countless hours in the gym developing athletes, mentoring boxers, and building a culture of discipline and commitment. Beyond the gym, he consistently travels the roads to support our fighters at competitions, ensuring they are prepared, confident, and never alone.

His dedication, leadership, and tireless work ethic have made a lasting impact on both the club and its athletes. Pearl Boxing Club is as strong as it is because of him, and this award reflects the respect and appreciation he has earned from the entire PBC family.

Congratulations, Coach Bombay!

Rookie of the Year (2025)
Team Captain (2026)

Gentry started the year strong and finished even stronger. Gentry is 21 years old and undefeated with 3 amateur bouts. He competes around the 154 pounds range. He is a leader and motivator in the gym and refuses to be outworked. Whether on the heavy bag, mitts, or sparring, every time Gentry laces the gloves, he gives it his all.

Yvonne Champion: Whatever Needs Doing (2025)

True to her name, Yvonne Champion shows up like a champion every time. Wherever help is needed, she is already there. From handling tickets and concessions to stepping in wherever support is required, Yvonne plays a vital role in keeping our events running smoothly.

She doesn’t wait to be asked—she simply does whatever needs doing. Her reliability, willingness, and team-first attitude make a difference for Pearl Boxing Club, and we are proud to recognize her with the Whatever Needs Doing award.

Harkins family: Fan of The Year (2025)

The Harkins family is steadfast in their support. They train very hard and they support even harder. They travel on the road, supporting the boxers and they help in the gym with sparring.

Whenever you come to Jackson, MS, check them out at Fondren Guitars.
Patrick, Haley, Hank, Gus, and Skip. Welcome to the PBC family.

Claire Howell: No Job Too Small (2025)

Claire trains very hard with us. She and her family trains hard. Claire supports in so many ways. She spars, she motivates, she leads from the front, she travels the roads and cheers the team on, and she keeps the gym tidy. You cannot ask for much more than she already gives. Claire is definitely part of the PBC family and very deserving of the No Job Too Small award.

Jaden Dent: Ready to Fight (2025)

Jaden Dent is always training hard and always prepared to compete. He currently has five amateur bouts and competes around the 100–105 pound weight range.

While Jaden has shown up to many more fight events, circumstances beyond his control did not always allow him to be matched. What has never changed, however, is Jaden’s readiness.
Whether or not the bell rings, Jaden shows up disciplined, focused, and prepared to fight—and that consistency is what makes him deserving of the Ready to Fight Award.

Ernie Hillard: Lifetime Achievement Award (2025)

In just one year, this coach has shown up every single day as if this gym were his life’s work. He is often the first person here and sometimes the last to leave. He knows our boxers not just by name, but by face, story, and accomplishment—because he pays attention.

He doesn’t just assist with coaching in the gym; he travels the roads, supports our fighters, and cheers them on wherever they compete. Behind the scenes, he steps in wherever he’s needed—helping with administrative work, marketing, and the unglamorous tasks that keep this place alive.
In one year, he has given so much of his time and service that his impact feels like a lifetime—he has made himself standout through consistency, care, and commitment.

When people hear ‘Lifetime Achievement Award,’ they often think it’s about time—ten years, twenty years, a whole career. But in this gym, lifetime achievement is also about impact, appreciation, and dependability, and we did not want to wait to give Ernie his flowers.
