CDC report shows concerning increases in sadness and exposure to violence among teen girls and LGBQ+ youth

Schools can offer a critical lifeline for students facing trauma

Three key strategies to improve youth health and well-being:

⚫️ Increase the sense among all students that they are cared for, supported, and belong at school

⚫️ Increase access to needed health services

⚫️ Implement quality health education

What support is your community providing for teen girls?

With the pressures being faced by our female youth today, it’s important for their mental and emotional health to have access to safe spaces and faces to mitigate and prevent trauma on their lives.

This Black History Month we are so proud to feature one of the modern pioneers in substance use prevention, our CEO, Marc Fomby.

Marc has made it his life’s work to help change the lives of youth across the nation. Serving in capacities from volunteer youth coach to juvenile crimes detective to substance use prevention specialist to Chief of Police at Alabama’s oldest HBCU (Talladega College), he has positively influenced the decision-making abilities of young people and the skill sets of adults who work with youth.

For over thirty years, Marc has enthusiastically provided support, consulting services, community and strategic planning, and program development to individuals, agencies, schools, colleges/universities, institutions, private, public, governmental and faith-based organizations throughout the United States and the Virgin Islands. Marc has developed curricula and programs for high-risk youth and families as well as instructional guidelines for behavioral health education and prevention.

An avid student of the Gospel, he has been preaching and teaching God’s Word since 2005. After being licensed and ordained in the ministry, Marc served as Co-Youth Pastor at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Brandon, MS and is with The Piney Woods School in Braxton, MS; where he has been the Dean of Chapel for five years serving the students and faculty weekly by spreading the Gospel.

A member of the Metro Jackson Community Prevention Coalition, dedicated to youth life skills and peer education training and the Recovery School District of New Orleans, a national initiative committed to breaking the cycle of violence and providing support assistance to youth, Marc also is the host and coordinator of the Mississippi Conference for Addiction Professionals, the first statewide educational hub for prevention, treatment, and recovery professionals in the state of Mississippi. Additionally, he coordinates the annual statewide Juvenile Justice Symposium.

A well-known gang consultant and juvenile su***de awareness trainer, Marc has been a certified Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) National Training & Technical Assistance Center (NTTAC) consultant since 2007. He has also conducted cultural sensitivity training in numerous states, including the Alabama Police Chiefs Conference and the Alabama Office of the Attorney General.

Marc earned his Bachelor’s degree in business management from Belhaven University in Jackson, MS. He also received his prevention certification via the Alabama Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association (AADAA) via completion of the exam given by the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC), the international addictions and prevention professionals certification organization.

SALUTE, MR. MARC FOMBY!
