Kids Music Day 🎹 is celebrated every year on the first Friday of October to inspire kids to assimilate music into their lives. 🎼

Our mission is to enhance the quality of life in our community by providing theater experiences and education in order to promote participation, appreciation, and understanding of the arts.

This Saturday morning we are emptying out a barn that's been housing some old set pieces for many years. We haven't used most of them in quite a while. Help us clean out the loft of the barn and get everything broken down and into a dumpster. 🗑

Are you interested in some of the pieces or lumber? Swing by and check them out for yourself. We'll be there beginning at 9:00 AM and likely until at least noon. ⏰ The barn is located on 54-A across from the Antique Inn. Send us a message for a more direct address, but the big red barn and dumpster should be a good indicator.

If you were asked to walk "downstage" during a show, which way would you go? What about "upstage"? 🏃

Todays theatres and auditoriums have a rake, or grade, to them. 🎭 Historically, the stage itself had a pitch to it. This caused performers to literally walk DOWN the stage or UP the stage, hence stage directions were born! (Our youth performers love this history lesson each production.)

For several years, one of our favorite events and fundraisers was the Haunted Sampson. 🏚 Over the course of 2 or 3 weekends we'd fill the Sampson Theatre with ghouls, ghosts and gags 🔮 to entertain and scare visitors from all over the region. What's your best memory of the Haunted Sampson? 🎃

(No, it won't be happening this year as the Sampson no longer has a stage and is being prepped for construction.)

Save Your Photos Day is celebrated on the last Saturday of September every year, making it today! 📸

This was an initiative by the Save Your Photos Alliance, conceptualized by The Association of Personal Photo Organizers. Photos help us preserve our precious memories and look back at them but very often, we forget to preserve the photos themselves.

We'd love to see photos you've saved from past productions. Perhaps you've got a selfie from the audience before the curtain opened or a behind-the-scenes glipse. Help us celebrate this day and share a theatre photo you've saved. 🤳

✨ Ever wonder why we say “Break a leg” in theatre?

There are a few stories behind the phrase — from ancient Greeks stomping their feet in applause, to Elizabethans breaking chair legs, to actors stepping past the “leg line” on stage (which meant they actually got to perform and get paid!).

No matter which version you believe, it’s all about wishing performers good luck. So if you see a performer before a show, don’t forget to say: “Break a leg!” 🎭
