Sometimes we are asked how we decide what bookings to take so I wanted to toss out some things we consider when looking at offers.
Does the pay make sense?
Does the booking actually help with exposure?
Does the flier placement make sense or is your logo being shown?
Is the event market the target audience you normally market to(do you normally play in front of these same people?)
Are you already going to be in the area the show takes place?(This cuts down travel expenses)
Always accepting any booking no matter what flier placement/pay will devalue your worth and make promoters expect you to be okay with recieving the bare minimum or sometimes nothing and it also ruins the market for other producers and performers as promoters will just ask you to keep doing it free/cheap which essentially helps no body.
What are your thoughts on this and what are other things you consider when accepting bookings?
