We spotted Mrs. Huttar's Ag Mechanics students test-starting small engines this morning outside the HIVE. The class is currently studying the four-stroke theory and will begin disassembling the engines this week. The ultimate goal is to get the engines reassembled, all awhile learning about the components and tools, and working again!

Athletics Update:

Girls' Soccer - The team suffered a 10-1 loss to Keshequa on Friday night. Addison Campbell started the night in goal, and when the team needed her on the field, she stepped up and had an amazing game. Kennedy Gross took her first turn in goal this season. Working together, the two made an incredible 26 saves throughout the match. In the midfield, Joanna Campbell held strong in the center, helping to move the ball forward. Up top, Abby Herring and Rubi Cortes both had strong performances, with Rubi netting Perry’s lone goal of the night. On defense, Kara Givens had an outstanding game, clearing the ball away from danger several times. The rest of the defensive line — Hannah Hurlburt, Peyton Hudson, Brooke Narowski, and Addison Buckley — battled hard and played with grit against constant attacks.

Volleyball - The team defeated Warsaw in three-straight sets on Friday. Scores were 25-20, 25-20, 25-15. Nellie Koronas recorded 3 aces, 4 kills, 5 digs, 22 assists, and a block for the Yellowjackets. Olivia Monteleone led the offense with 8 kills and 10 digs. Freshman Astrid Bellamy had a strong showing also, recording 6 aces, 4 kills and a block. Perry is now 3-0 (1-0).

There's nothing, and we mean nothing, better than an old-school flash card war.

You know what we're talking about...the adrenaline, the anticipation, the panic. Props to Mrs. Ferro's 4th graders for being fierce competitors.

“You are the scientists today,” Mrs. Rockcastle told her 7th graders this morning. Classes have been learning how scientists make observations, form hypotheses, and test out their guesses. Students were given a sealed tube with several external drawstrings. They first had to observe how the strings functioned before hypothesizing about the internal workings of the strings. After sketching their ideas, they were tasked with building their own models. Students soon discovered that even scientists sometimes fail to prove their theories.

For those of us old enough to remember September 11, 2001, we sometimes forget that there is an entire generation that wasn’t born yet or are too young to remember that day. That’s why, as we reflect on those tragic events, it’s important that we stop to help our students understand the significance of that moment in time.

This morning, Mrs. Reagan and her 3rd graders had a great discussion about September 11 while reading the book “Survivor Tree” by Marcie Colleen. The book highlights the Callery pear tree that stood near the World Trade Center and was nearly destroyed on that faithful day. The tree was rescued by workers, nursed back to health, and now stands as a symbol of perseverance at the 9/11 Memorial.
