On Wednesday evening, August 17, the Carranor Hunt & Polo Club hosted a delicious farm-to-table dinner, followed by an inspiring presentation by Yvonne Dubielak, the Executive Director of Toledo GROWS. Dinner began with a tantalizingly light salad of fresh tomatoes, watermelon, and feta. The entrée featured pan seared boneless chicken breasts accompanied by a bountiful array of fresh roasted vegetables.

After savoring such a flavorful, healthy meal, the audience was captivated by Yvonne’s photos and narrative about the 120+ community gardens that Toledo GROWS supports through providing technical expertise to plan and maintain a neighborhood garden; seeds and starter plants each spring; recruitment of volunteers and the loan of gardening equipment for larger work days; and so much more. These gardens are located where nutritious food is most needed utilizing land at community centers, schools, faith-based organizations, library branches, and neglected neighborhood lots. All of these sites are widely accessible to the diverse range of people living nearby who want to participate in the gardening experience and harvesting of the produce.
