Our Story
Garden Valley Ranch was built in 1890 by Harrison Mecham, a well known Petaluma pioneer and philanthropist. Harrison Mecham earned a modest fortune gold mining and was one of the largest land owners in Sonoma County during the later years of his life. Garden Valley Ranch was built as a wedding gift to his daughter, Isabel Mecham.
In the early 1980’s Rayford Reddell purchased Garden Valley Ranch with the intention of reviving the Victorian mansion built for Isabel Mecham and turning it into a small inn. Unfortunately the home burnt down in a fire before the renovations were complete. Rayford then turned his efforts into establishing Garden Valley Ranch as a world renowned grower of garden roses.
Today Garden Valley Ranch cultivates approximately 6,000 garden roses over five acres in open fields. Beautiful outdoor & indoor event spaces are a hallmark of the property. Garden Valley Ranch features a Garden Store and Rose Nursery open, Saturdays and Sundays. Don’t miss frequent events and workshops or a chance to visit this stunning attraction in charming Petaluma, California.
