THIS SATURDAY 🌟 The Drifters, Cornell Gunter’s Coasters and The Platters are LIVE at The Ellis Theater 🌟

This holiday show is one the whole family will enjoy 🎄

The Drifters created the pre-Motown, heavily choreographed slickness, of Urban Pop-Soul. The Coasters (soon to become the Cornell Gunter Coasters – named after their founding member) were the premier, and perhaps the only, group combining gritty R&B with night club comedy antics. The Platters – well so much music, even then, was about love and romance (especially that of the young & unrequited variety) and that is what the Platters were all about.

Three historic groups will be LIVE at The Ellis on December 7th for an iconic holiday show - Don't miss The Drifters, Platters and Coasters ... learn about some of the rich history of The Platters below and in these amazing pictures. 🎄🌟🎅

In 1952-53, bass singer Herb Reed founded and named The Platters, later becoming a Rock n’ Roll, Vocal, and GRAMMY® Halls of Fame artist. It is the first black group to be overwhelmingly accepted on the world stage and the first to reach international superstardom (www.theplatters.com). He was the only performing vocalist who performed with the group from its inception until his death in June 2012 and who appeared on all 400+ recordings making him the only group member who performed with The Platters continuously until he died in 2012.

Seventy years after the group’s founding, The Platters live on through Reed’s legacy under the auspices of Frederick J. Balboni Jr. Reed’s hand-picked successor despite a tumultuous history spanning decades of racism and unscrupulous identity thieves in the United States and abroad that have attempted to steal its distinctiveness and make it there own.

To understand The Platters is to appreciate its rich history.

So thrilled to have the amazing opening up the night for on December 14th ✨

Elizabeth Cook is a Nashville-based Singer Songwriter from Wildwood, Florida. As
a critically acclaimed live act and recording artist, the New York Times lauds her "a
sharp and surprising country singer." A veteran SiriusXM Outlaw Country Radio DJ,
hosting her own show, Apron Strings, nationwide for the last 10 years, she is also a
favorite of David Letterman, a regular performer on the Grand Ole Opry, and a
frequent guest star on Adult Swim's long-running hit cartoon series "Squidbillies"
on Cartoon Network.

In the words of the Drivin' and Cryin's legendary Kevn Kinney, "Elizabeth is so far
ahead and under the radar you better have a supercharger for that fastback if
you're going to catch up! Enjoy the ride..."

In celebration of Native American Heritage Month, Marty Stuart’s Congress of Country Music, in collaboration with the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, Philadelphia Neshoba County Tourism, and the Philadelphia Neshoba County Arts Council, is excited to present a FREE screening of Little Brother of War at the historic Ellis Theater.

Produced by 13 South Productions, Little Brother of War showcases the traditional Choctaw game of stickball, an integral part of the tribe’s heritage. The film follows two stickball players—Elijah Jimmie from Bok Cito and Casey Bigpond from Pearl River—as they prepare for and compete in the World Series Stickball tournament at the 2018 Choctaw Indian Fair. Along the way, Tribal Chief Cyrus Ben and other community leaders share personal stories, historical insights, and a deeper understanding of America’s oldest team sport.

This is a unique opportunity to experience the heart and soul of Choctaw culture on the big screen. We invite you to join us for this free, educational, and unforgettable event.

Frank Foster embodies musical independence at its highest level. He not only has taken the road less traveled, but the road almost never traveled. Acting as his own record label, management and publishing company, he has managed to find success that some major label artists may never find. This rural Louisiana native and former oilfield man has taken his songs from the campfire to the coliseum seemingly overnight, all the while gaining a following of fans whose loyalty is unmatched.

His musical journey started in 2011 with the release of his first album “Rowdy Reputation”. To follow that up, in the late summer of 2012, he released his second album “Red Wings and Six Strings” which debuted at #30 on the Billboard Country Charts and #1 on Billboard’s South Central U.S. Heat Seeker’s chart. Foster’s next five albums also all debuted on the Billboard Country Charts.

After 50 years with Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, co-founder John McEuen stepped off the bus to bring that humorous history to life on stage with film, video, stills, music, and hot guest musicians. Coming to The Eliss Theater in Philadelphia, Miss., they cover the early music of Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (Mr. Bojangles, Shelley’s Blues, House at Pooh Corner, Long Hard Road, Dance Little Jean and others). John tells, and plays – and shows on the screen behind the group – stories and music of the iconic ‘Dirt Band’. Also, the music from multi-platinum Will the Circle Be Unbroken album, (which John initiated) and the photos shot by his brother, Bill (the band’s manager and producer), are also featured. Rolling Stone says it’s “possibly the most important album to come out of Nashville”. “Circle’ is in The Grammy Hall of Fame and Library of Congress.

This multi-media show is one you won’t want to miss! Nitty Gritty Dirt Band hits, Bluegrass, and from his new album, The Newsman, John and his string wizards bring us a great evening of entertainment – hits and bluegrass – in overdrive.

McEuen (banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle) is joined by fellow NG DIrt Band co-founding member Les Thompson, and two other hot pickers.

She’s the daughter of Country Music legend Mel Tillis and multi-media artist Doris Tillis. A singer/songwriter whose compositions have been covered in Country, R&B, Bluegrass and Rock. An actor with a long list of film, TV and stage credits. Pam Tillis sidestepped any notions of nepotism and other “isms” that women in show business often face and carved out her own unique space as an entertainer.

Tillis’ 1991 debut country album, Put Yourself In My Place, went gold and yielded two No. 1 and two Top 5 singles. Her next three albums – Homeward Looking Angel, Sweetheart’s Dance and Greatest Hits, were all certified platinum. She achieved six No. 1 songs during the ‘90s Country explosion, including “Shake the Sugar Tree,” “Mi Vida Loca,” “When You Walk In The Room,” “In Between Dances,” “Don’t Tell Me What To Do,” and her signature song, “Maybe It Was Memphis.”

Don't miss the incredible live at The Ellis Theater on 3.8.25 🌹

Pam has performed on the stages of Broadway in New York, modeled on the pages of Glamour Magazine and is a proud member of The Grand Ole Opry. Some of Pam’s most memorable award moments are being a 3-time CMA award winner including the prestigious 1994’s Female Vocalist Of The Year Award, and being nominated multiple times for Grammy’s Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 1993 for “Maybe It Was Memphis, in 1996 for “Mi Vida Loca” and in 1998 for “All The Good Ones Are Gone”. Pam is also proud to be a 9-time Academy of Country Music Award nominee, a 2-time Grammy award winner and 6-time Grammy nominee, and an American Music Award’s nominee. Most recently, Pam has celebrated an IBMA award win in 2004 for Recorded Event Of The Year “Livin’ Lovin’ Losin’” and most recently a 2012 IBMA Song Of The Year nomination for co-writing, Dale Ann Bradley’s “Somewhere South Of Crazy”.

Though Pam has rolled easily with the tides and has drawn something from every new twist the ever-changing country music world has shown her, Pam Tillis has always insisted on writing and cutting songs that speak from the soul. The results have been records that emanate an almost painful beauty. With more than 30 singles charting on US Billboard charts, 10 studio albums including her favorite, the critically acclaimed 2002 “It’s All Relative” (a tribute to her father, the great Mel Tillis), and 3 other releases “Rhinestoned”, “Recollection” and “Just In Time For Christmas” off her own label, Stellar Cat Records. In 2012 Red River Entertainment released ‘Dos Divas’ a Country Duo album with fellow superstar Lorrie Morgan under the name Grits and Glamour.
