AKA “Eskew Reeder” 😉
Reeder taught himself piano while playing at his mother’s church. He dropped out of high school to become a professional gospel musician. Little Richard saw Esquerita getting off a bus at the station and exclaimed “Oh boy!”. This was the start of a relationship where Little Richard credits him for teaching him his signature wild piano style. Esquerita was known for wearing makeup and two wigs at a time (goals!), did Little Richard also take from his style, or was it symbiotic? Which ever it was it’s clear they were influenced by each other not only musically but stylistically too.

My commentary to accompany the Bobby Moore record ❤️

From the collection of Wayward Girl Dawn Smits (DJ Sapphire) , The New Beats “crying my heart out” recorded in 1966 for the Hickory label. It became a hit at Wigan Casino circa 76-77 , some say it was a Wigan only tune. Seems to have stopped getting much play but you can find it in DJ Sapphire’s box as she thinks it’s a great northern dancer that needs to be reconsidered/re-visited. Fun fact: falsetto is none other than Larry Henley the brother of Barbara Mills of northern soul “Queen of Fools” fame, he also provided the falsetto on that tune.
