Presenting: “Artists with Cameras: 2024 Photography Show,” held in partnership with MAAG’s Photo Club. The exhibition runs till November 22.

Photography artists share what has inspired them via a range of creative expressions -- portraits, objects, street scenes, landscapes, abstracts, and more. The camera is their tool, which they use to create images for art’s sake.

It’s getting close to the Holiday Art Market – A Juried Holiday Display of Original Fine Art and Handcrafts, and we intend to celebrate with fine art, handcraft, live music, food, and a wonderful time for all. All artists are invited to submit their work for sale at our Art Market, which will run two weekends: December 7-8 and 14-15, Saturday 12 – 6 PM, Sunday 12 – 5 PM, with setup on Fridays from 6 – 9 PM.

Artists have the choice to sell for only one weekend or both, and artists must remove their displays after each Sunday. Submissions will be juried, and current members will have priority in the jurying process. We will notify you if your work has been accepted around November 20.

Visit our website for the application form https://mtairyartgarage.org/ link is also in bio!

Nicki Toizer, camera artist and LEGO Star Wars (TM) fan. “I was thinking about a ‘typical’ day for a Stormtrooper in the Star Wars (TM) universe and wondered, what do Stormtroopers do when they're off duty? Here are two examples: reading and causing trouble in the hallways by roller skating (with two actually playing hockey),” she says. “They can't always be up to something evil....”

Drop by the Gallery@MAAG and see Nicki’s photographs, “Call Me Ishmael” and “Hallway Hijinks,” in our exhibition, “Artists with Cameras: 2024 Photography Show,” held in partnership with the MAAG Photo Club. The exhibition runs till November 22.

People who attended the Community Portrait Event and Dinner this past Saturday, said they had a blast -- drawing each other’s portraits, lots of laughter, and a satisfying meal…most were reluctant to call an end to the evening.

The portraits created that evening have been added to Shannon Cronin’s art show, “Stop the World/Melt with You: The Reciprocal Portrait Project,” in MAAG’s Gallery. Drop by and see them this week, Wednesday – Saturday, 12:00-6:00 PM.

In her interview with Len Lear of the Chestnut Hill Local, Shannon explained that “while the exhibit is a showcase of the actual paintings, the project’s true essence lies beyond the canvas.” (www.chestnuthilllocal.com/stories/reciprocal-portrait-project-is-a-brush-with-intimacy,33669)

The show closes Saturday, October 5; and there will be a Closing Reception during 1:00-3:00 PM to celebrate this amazing presentation of the Reciprocal Portrait Project. Plan to attend!

During the isolation imposed by the COVID pandemic, Shannon Cronin “began to imagine ways that her journey as a professional artist could help overcome social disconnection and alienation to forge stronger bonds with the people around her. And what she discovered is that by taking the time to look carefully, and intently, at another person’s face, you see the beauty in it.” …Painting each other’s portrait “feels like a bonding experience,” she explained. “Trust grows. This is a break from normal life, almost a form of therapy. It is very calming to sit there with a paintbrush.”

Shannon Cronin’s exhibit, “Stop the World/Melt with You: The Reciprocal Portrait Project,” runs till October 5 in MAAG’s Gallery.

She is hosting a Community Portrait Event and Dinner on Saturday, September 28, 5-8 p.m. Enjoy an evening creating portraits following the same method and using the same materials as those in the art show, then afterwards partake in a celebratory meal.
