Riot-Nerd was born as an entertainment blog. It served as a creative outlet for wife and husband team of semi-professional wedding/concert photographer Megan Hawkey and her verbose husband Kevin.
The site became a staple in the Philadelphia entertainment scene. They, and their small but dedicated team of contributors, spent their time interviewing bands, photographing and filming concerts, offering giveaways, holding listening parties for internationally renowned musicians and hosting film screenings.
Megan and Kevin started creating small events to help promote the website but things quickly took off. The duo discovered a real passion for event planning, finding rewarding enthusiasm in translating the positive and inclusive eccentric spirit of the blog into building a community where all are welcome to celebrate their inner “nerd” without fear of ridicule. Together they create unique destination events like themed dance parties, pop ups, concerts, art exhibitions and much, much more to come.
Riot Nerd events have been featured in The Spirit News, The Metro, Philly Voice, The Star Newspaper, Philly Mag, Time Out Philly and Geekadelphia.
