We have big dreams for the year to come and we hope you do too! Let this be a year of joyous, transformational bodies, illuminating possibilities of Love and Peace. This is what we are dreaming. We are making that dance and we are supporting the grassroots artists and projects in Philadelphia that believe that bodies dancing, playing, spinning and shouting make a light we all need. https://conta.cc/47ngx6Y Barnes Foundation

Headlong has the best community!

We need your help today to keep it flourishing.

We are proud to be able to continue supporting artists and devoting precious resources to visionary individuals and grassroots companies. We are only as strong as our ecosystem and we will never see ourselves as separate from that.

Please consider donating now to help us keep supporting experimental performers in Philadelphia, such as the wonderful artists in this video.

Testimonials from artists who have been supported by Headlong programs during the pandemic. Jordan Deal, Esther Baker-Tarpaga, Angel Edwards, Elaine Holton.

Our end of fiscal year fundraiser is still happening: https://www.headlongdancesforward.org!

We need your help in returning to full operational capacity. We have had to make difficult choices over the past 2 years and though we remain resilient, the deep cuts have taken their toll.

We appreciate your support!

Please come by Headlong on Friday, June 3rd for Headlong Performance Institute Fellow David Guzman's Treeing event. Drop in any time between noon and 6pm.

David's work with urban ecology is playful, activating, and refreshingly reverent. Mixing acute observational practices with urgency and imagination, David's expansive work can feel to me like an imaginary collaboration between Charles Darwin and Bread and Puppet's Peter Schulman.

Help us stay Embodied, Engaged and Safe!

The 2022 HPI program begins last week and we could use your help in keeping our artist Fellows safe. We are implementing a rigorous protocol that includes lots of testing, which will allow us to finally work together in a studio. After two years of virtual practice and social distancing for outdoor workshops, we are so excited to be moving in a studio with one another again! But to do this safely requires lots of testing which is expensive.

With your support, we can make this happen!

1. Contribute to our Covid-19 Test Donation Drive by dropping off a Covid-19 rapid test to Headlong Studios - Tuesday-Thursday between 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Or:

2. Donate to our HPI Covid-19 Test Fund here: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=X7DHE57P28DJE.

We promise to keep each other safe while making work that matters to you and our communities.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Love Unpunished opens tomorrow night at the Prince Theater as part of the , a work David co-directed and choreographed in 2006 with Pig Iron Theatre Company. We invite you to come to see it and read more! https://conta.cc/3jEMZMv

"Reimagining this work has been at times overwhelming as the exquisite cast and crew gather together. For most of us, this is the first time for this beloved kind of rehearsal intimacy since March 2020. We eased into it. We began during that brief window between completed vaccinations and the rise of the Delta variant. Now we test and mask to rehearse, and you will be asked to bring proof of vaccination and wear a mask in the theater for the performance."

Headlong and Pig Iron Dear Friends, I am writing to invite you to see Love Unpunished, a work I co-directed and choreographed in 2006 with Pig Iron Theater Company and that opens again tomorrow night

David writes, “On the subject of grief and discovery, the most empathic artist I know, devynn emory, is sharing a participatory ritual and film called deadbird at Bartram's Garden starting today. devynn is a mixed Lenape/Blackfoot transgender choreographer, dance artist, bodyworker, ceremonial guide, acute care and hospice nurse. Yes, all that, art and life, all woven. deadbird is an expansive work of overlapping modalities, including a durational, ritual altar installation, a truly amazing film, and an invitation to participate alone or communally. This is art meant to be part of the flow of life, its proposals for art as experience, reflection, participation are moving and exquisite....some of you might remember devynn as a central collaborator-performer in earlier Headlong projects. http://deadbird.land/phil

Devynn Emory’s “deadbird” — a duet for Emory and a mannequin — deals with grief, envisioning “an ideal care team for a body who’s passing.”
