We’re thrilled to introduce 🌱Morning Sprouts🌱 -a new drop-off program at Rutabaga Toy Library!

For children ages 1.5 to 3, Morning Sprouts offers a fun, engaging space to play, explore, and learn while caregivers enjoy a morning to themselves.

Each Morning Includes:
🦖 Child-guided with our toy library collection
🎨 A special activity (sensory play, music, or crafts)
📖 Storytime
🍎 Snack break (families provide snacks)

This is a wonderful way to ease into drop-off time and build confidence before pre-K—all while fostering independence and a love for learning through play!

📅 $200 per 4-week session
🩲 Children must be potty trained

Ages 5–12 | June 16–August 22

We’re gearing up for outdoor adventures, creative projects, and tons of exploration! Worried your child might be “too big”? Not anymore—this year we’re adding “Big Kids” experiences just for ages 8+ (bigger builds, advanced challenges, and more!).

We’re closing early today at 3:30PM because our staff is under the weather. 🤒 Something is definitely going around, and when our team gets sick, we just can’t provide the fun, engaging space you know and love.

As you totally read thoroughly in our play waiver, right?! 😉 — a friendly reminder of our sick policy:

🛑 If you or your kiddo isn’t feeling well, please stay home and rest up.
🌡️ Kids should be fever-free for 24 hours (without meds!) before returning.
🧼 Help us keep Rutabaga healthy—wash those hands and pop mouthed toys in the cleaning bin! 🫧

The last of the electrical work needs to get done this afternoon so we are closing a bit early. So sorry for any inconvenience.

We have been working for months to get our space upgraded and this long weekend is the final push 💪

Building our village

My partner and I bought our first home in East Falls in 2010 and fell in love with the proximity to the city and to the Wissahickon and small neighborhood vibe. After having Pedrito (4) and Alma (2), we still yearned for our village -- walkable spaces and places, sense of community, etc etc etc -- and began looking for a home in other neighborhoods. Finally coming to our sense, remembering our love for our home and neighborhood and faced with the reality of the current housing market, we thought -- why not just make what we need, let’s build our village -- so that’s what we’re doing! Little by little. Connection by connection. We’re doing it.

Our mission is to help RUTABAGA become what the community needs --- an affordable, uber-local, community-centric hub that serves children and their grown-ups in East Falls and surrounding neighborhoods, with a focus on accessibility, environmental consciousness, thoughtful parenting, and community building.
