The Icebox Project Space is an innovative and experimental contemporary exhibition space where visual artists, musicians, film makers, and performers are able to work, think, and collaborate within a uniquely large scale and open structure. The Icebox boldly explores the notion and limitations of what defines an exhibition, and seeks to challenge and explore, while fostering the creative process.

The Icebox engages a broad National and International audience, and visitors should expect a level of engagement with programming, with the space itself, and with the community it continues to build. Please join us in creating this expanding dialogue.

Our third BIG SUMMER BOOK SALE is here featuring an eclectic mix of bookstores, print collectives, artist-run projects — from comics to wearable multiples, from self-published zines to discounted art books (care of Ulises!) — as we celebrate printed matter among friends and family, in its many popular, social, and liberatory forms.

Come visit 25 Philly-based vendors plus a few out-of-town guests, as they share their print wares, in one place! Sunday, July 14th from 11AM–5PM, at Icebox Project Space. Hosted by , , and .

Cash bar, free hot dogs rolling (while supplies last), and a raffle every hour on the hour.

ACCESSIBILITY INFO:
Icebox Project Space, located within the Crane Arts Building, is wheelchair accessible. There is limited accessible parking at the front of the building, and a ramp leading into the main entrance. The main building door is not automated. Once inside the building, there are no steps leading into Icebox Project Space.

Two all-gender bathrooms with multiple stalls are available for use — one with urinals, one without, and both with 1–2 wheelchair-accessible stall(s). Armless folding chairs will be available for sitting.

There is an HVAC system that incorporates HEPA filtration, and additional air purifiers will be staggered throughout the main event space.

Alcohol will be served at the event, and food will include vegan and gluten-free options. Masking is encouraged while not eating or drinking.

OPENING 2ND THURSDAY 6-9pm 🪿 Goose Song is a captivating spectacle reminiscent of an amusement park, with its own set of rules and regulations. Video, projection and a diy carnival ride bring viewers to questions of water rights and collectivity. In a 3-day engagement at Icebox May 9-11, you’re in for a wild ride!

It is fabled that swans sing a haunting song before their death, after being silent their entire lives. We are not the swan, silent until the end, but the goose, screaming, yelling, and wailing until our last breath.

"Told through a relentless barrage of 1-4 frame clips from television, flm, advertising, YouTube videos and stock
footage, the flm explores themes of paranoia, social isolation and identity. After years of abusing psychedelics, dissociatives and research chemicals, I became obsessed with the mind-altering capabilities of images, particularly social media, po*******hy, mobile games and slot machines. The flm, which contains over 20,000 individual clips drawing from 4TB of material downloaded from soulseek and torrent sites, starts with the creation of the universe and ends with the apocalypse, taking a look at consumerism, internet culture, raving, bulimia, drug abuse, gender dysphoria, and loneliness along the way."

Keir Johnston & Ernel Martinez have been performing PUSH/PULL in many iterations over the last 10 years. Igniting history, the confines of public space, geography, the body, ritual, movement, labor. With each performance they often collaborate with artists, performers, and sound engineers. Come out tomorrow evening, Nov 1st from 6-8:30pm at for a panel discussion led by ArteSana, Amber Art & Design, and that honors communities of families and their recovery after Hurricane Maria in September 2017. On the second anniversary of Hurricane Maria, three artists representing Amber Art & Design walked over 215-miles across Puerto Rico from Isabella to Yubacoa, following the trajectory of the storm in reverse. The discussion highlights discoveries, snippets of interviews, and pictures of the isla.

2ND THURSDAY SPECIAL EVENT! In conjunction with Artist Linnea Bond will be presenting … "The Zeitgeist With A Thousand Faces: The Ultimate Crowdsourced Choose-Your-Own Adventure" is an interactive narrative-building installation fusing Joseph Cambell's influential but problematic theory of the monomyth with the classic second-person branching gamebook series. How will we reflect our diverse perspectives and experiences in this collaborative storymaking experiment? What adventures will we embark as one unified "You" based on diverse perspectives shaped by the world we share? What tales will we tell together?

The second workshop is "Basic Audio Setups" July 27th 6-8pm instructed by Kevin P. Keenan.

Attendees will learn the basics of how to set up an audio system for small events and the ideas behind more complex audio setups.

Always the Hour is a durational, immersive performance that traces the invisible influence of Wilson’s grandfather, Gub on her life. He grew up in rural western New York, was a bomber pilot and POW in WW2, developed alcoholism after the war, and died long before she was born. Imagining her liver as the haunted house where his ghost lingers, Wilson asks in Always the Hour: How do we metabolize familial and generational harm? Special appearances will be made by Prometheus, Jesus’s (sexy) sacred side wound, and a stuffed animal representing Swoop the Eagles mascot.

VOLUMES is an immersive audio-visual installation by interdisciplinary artist/musician Ezra Masch. In VOLUMES, live drumming activates a matrix of vertical lights installed in a three-dimensional grid. Velocity and pitch determine the quantity of light that floods the gallery, creating a dynamic sensory experience for viewers. A month long performance series curated by Masch will feature a host of percussionists from the Philadelphia area and abroad. Tonight! ・・・ So very excited to see @silicagelspeaks perform @iceboxprojectspace on 6.23 8 pm suggested donation 7-10 no one turned away for lack of funds Silica Gel adapt medieval texts into lush noise ballads & compose original art songs for two voices, custom electronics, percussion & various strings. Their sound is a unique synthesis of Early music with improvisation and folk elements that create a spacious & highly textured soundworld. Their debut album from 2020 adapts a series of art songs from the 12th-14th centuries including the political satire Roman de Fauvel. Coming out of the Birmingham, Alabama experimental music scene, they have toured nationally and are releasing a new album with Providence, RI based label Noumenal Loom in spring 2022.
