The American Veterans of Foreign Service was organized on September 29th, 1899 in Columbus, OH… and the Colorado Society of the Army of the Philippines was organized on December 12th, 1899 in Denver, CO. Hansbury organized the Philadelphia group on July 24th, 1902 and he was the National Commander of the AVFS at the time. Lawton Post No.1 of the American Veterans of Foreign Service. Altoona and Pi

ttsburgh also had groups that were started in the early 1900's. The Bridesburg VFW Post was created in the mid 1900's as VFW Post 5207. In 1969, the General Henry W. Lawton VFW Post 2 was closing and decided to merge with our Post, hence how we became the Bridesburg-Lawton VFW Post 2. The PA VFW HQ's has a framed flag in their lobby, which is located in Harrisburg, of our original Post! They also have an original Meeting Minutes book dating back to February 1914... odd how National lists our muster date as 11/11/1915, which is the date of the General H. Lawton Post's Charter. They have to this day refused to correct the date even though National Historians have proven that R.S. Hansbury started the Post in Philly... which turned out to be the Gen. Lawton Post No. 1. Our monthly meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each Month at 7:00 PM (Weather Permitting).
