🌸Thriving Thursday🌸
African violets are popular for their vibrant blooms and compact size. Here are some care tips to help them thrive!!
Light- They prefer bright, indirect light. Place them near a north or east-facing window. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.
Watering- Use lukewarm water and avoid getting the leaves wet. Water the plant from the bottom by placing the pot in a shallow dish of water for 20–30 minutes, then remove it to allow excess water to drain.
Soil -Use a well-draining potting mix, such as one made for African violets or a mix of peat moss, perlite, and vermiculite.
Humidity- African violets enjoy humidity. You can increase humidity by placing the plant on a tray filled with pebbles and water, ensuring the pot isn’t directly sitting in the water.
Temperature- Keep them in a consistent temperature between 65–75°F (18–24°C). Avoid drafts or sudden temperature changes.
Fertilizing-Use a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer (such as 14-12-14) every 4–6 weeks to encourage healthy growth and blooming.
Pruning-Remove dead or yellowing leaves and spent flowers to promote new growth and prevent disease.
Repotting-African violets prefer to be slightly root-bound but should be repotted annually with fresh soil to maintain their health.

Cactus Care Tips:
1. Light- Cacti thrive in bright, direct sunlight. Place them near a sunny window or in a location that gets at least 6 hours of sunlight daily.
2. Watering- Water cacti sparingly. Let the soil dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering is a common mistake and can lead to root rot. During winter, reduce watering significantly as cacti enter a dormant phase.
3. Soil- Use well-draining soil specifically designed for cacti and succulents. This helps prevent water from pooling at the roots.
4. Temperature- Cacti prefer warm environments. Keep them in a temperature range of 65-85°F (18-29°C). In winter, ensure they aren't exposed to temperatures below 50°F (10°C).
5. Potting- Choose pots with drainage holes to allow excess water to escape. Terra cotta pots are ideal as they allow for better moisture evaporation.

Here are some fun and effective tips to help keep your fresh-cut flowers lasting longer at home:
HAVE YOU TRIED THESE TIPS YET?! 🤗
1. **Apple Cider Vinegar & Sugar:** Mix 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and 2 tablespoons of sugar into the water before adding your flowers. The vinegar fights bacteria, and the sugar nourishes the blooms.
2. **A Splash of Vodka:** Add a few drops of vodka or a clear spirit to the vase water. The alcohol slows the growth of bacteria, helping your flowers stay fresh.
3. **A Penny in the Vase:** Place a copper penny in your vase. Copper acts as a natural fungicide and keeps bacteria at bay.
4. **Aspirin:** Crush one aspirin and add it to the water. This lowers the pH level of the water, allowing it to travel more efficiently through the stems.
5. **Keep Them Cool:** Flowers love cool temperatures. Place your arrangement in a cool spot, away from direct sunlight, heat, or drafts. Even refrigerating them overnight can extend their life.
6. **Trim the Stems:** Recut the flower stems at an angle every couple of days. This helps them absorb water more easily and prevents the ends from sealing off.
7. **Change the Water Regularly:** Replace the water every 2-3 days to prevent bacteria growth. You can also clean the vase each time to ensure it's free from any residue.

How to Cut Fresh Flower Stems the Right Way!
1. **Use Sharp, Clean Tools**: Always use a sharp knife or floral cutters to make a clean cut. Dull blades can crush the stems and prevent proper water absorption.
2. **Cut at an Angle**: Cut the stems at a 45-degree angle. This increases the surface area for water absorption and prevents the stems from resting flat on the bottom of the vase.
3. **Cut Underwater**: If possible, cut the stems underwater. This prevents air bubbles from entering the stem, which can block water uptake.
4. **Trim Every Few Days**: Re-cut the stems every 2-3 days to keep them fresh. This helps remove any blockages that might have formed and ensures continuous water absorption.
5. **Remove Foliage Below the Waterline**: Strip off any leaves that would be submerged in water. Leaves left in water can rot, promoting bacteria growth.
6. **Use Lukewarm Water**: Fill your vase with lukewarm water. Warm water is more easily absorbed by the stems than cold water.
7. **Add Floral Preservative**: Mix in a floral preservative to keep the water clean and provide nutrients to the flowers, extending their life.
(We do this in house to only send the most fresh florals to our customers! 🌻)
8. **Display Immediately**: After cutting, place your flowers in water as soon as possible to prevent them from drying out.
