In the midst of another school shooting, I feel inclined to share the genuine concern I have for our youth in today's world. I'm convinced these four things are the major issues we're facing;
(1) Too much negative use of social media/internet
(2) Lack of parent involvement/engagement
(3) Lack of discipline and developed morales and respect for others
(4) Lack of mental-health resources and supports

I'd love to discuss on a new podcast episode and vent a little! (Sign-up is in my Linktr.ee)
As a parent I've been dealing with my daughter's drama and problems at her middle school with bullying, fighting, and negative use of social media.

Something new I learned this week from my 6th grader... (a different post I shared recently)
Do you all know what a "Friendly Fade" is!? Ask your middle school or high schooler! I bet they know... smh.
These kids are fighting their friends just for likes and clout on social media! Creating fight clubs and posting across multiple social media sites with thousands of views!
Some kids are recording the fights and posting, which can become legal issues!
CHECK πŸ‘THEIR πŸ‘ PHONES! πŸ‘
Check their texts and video files!!!
Check their laptops!
Check Pinterest!
Check Roblox!
Check Google Meets!
Check Facebook!
Check SnapChat!
Check IG!

Just know this social media and internet is ruining our kids. They think it's normal and cool and have no clue what they are being programmed to believe.
These fights are happening on school campuses, walks home, at the park, at boys and girls' clubs, etc.
They are also running up and attacking each other quickly before adults step in, so they can get quick videos.
I've seen and witnessed this!
Please speak with your kids and monitor their online and technology use!
It's not safe in these streets, nor online!

-Signed, a concerned mother and educator.

Work Place Environment Appreciation/Reflection Post.... πŸ™ŒπŸ½πŸ’πŸ’œ

These flowers were delivered to my house yesterday from my CTE colleagues at ADE! These simple gestures make me appreciate those I work with. Knowing them, I know they genuinely miss me (both professionally and personally) while I've been out this past month recovering from spine surgery.

I reflect on this bouquet because it reminds me of the first time I took FMLA 6 years ago while teaching to take care of my mental health. Instead of receiving kind gestures, encouraging words, or offered support/resources that could have helped me, I was ridiculed by my coworkers and even HR told me I should reconsider being a teacher since I mentally was not stable (in that moment) to do my job. Those hurtful words and the lack of empathy I felt during those three long months were some that I've never forgotten.

Workplace climate, culture, care, and empathy go so far in our work environment. Even words can make or break your employees and colleagues, and it's extremely important, especially in our society today, to support those around you.

I'm a firm believer that you get what you reciprocate, and I try my best to treat people with empathy, care, and understanding.

Receiving cards, texts, and these flowers over the past month from my colleagues makes me eager to get back to work, be around them, and continue the work we do on our team. Back to a place where I am appreciated, wanted, and missed. I have the best team, and I am thankful to be surrounded by caring people and being part of a non-toxic work environment.

Remember, we never know what people are truly going through behind closed doors. Kind gestures and words like this go a long way!

Did you know that 1 in 5 teachers/educators state they are exiting the profession within the next 2 years?

Strategies on teacher retention and recruitment is also a common discussion across school districts in the U.S., but what actions are being made to address burnout, low compensation, and the climate and culture of their schools?

This summer, Brittney Carey (Conscious Pathways) and I have aimed to Uplift teachers & educators and remind them of the joy and passion they have deep inside to remain in this field of work as well as address common concerns most have in the current state of education.

We are now two days away from our last session of the Uplifted Education Summit!
Join us and our special guests
Andrea Fitzgerald and QueenEducator Robyn as we discus how to embrace our own leadership in education while avoiding burnout and setting boundaries.

By advocating for sustainable practices and emphasizing personal resilience and self-care, participants will be better prepared to set a positive tone for the new school year and help create a thriving, supportive school environment.

Guests can still reserve their spots to join us for the last session, this Saturday, August 31st, at 10AM PST here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/uplifted-education-summit-registration-905027279957?aff=oddtdtcreator

The Uplifted Education Summit is continuing this Saturday, August 3rd (10AM PST)! πŸ“š 🍎 πŸ¦‰ πŸ™Œ πŸ’œ

Brittney Carey (Conscious Pathways) and I had the great idea to join forces after an inspirational podcast episode together and bring like-minded educators to the table to help uplift and empower the world of education with us for a summer summit series!

In the first half of this summit, we dove into the Power of Play, Freedom Dreaming, and Literacy Liberation to encourage Joyful Learning experiences for students, parents, and educators. We were provided insightful resources and best practices to truly embrace joy in schools while also addressing important factors that inhibit the success of our students! Thank you to our special guests Dr. Denisha Jones, Tunette Powell, PhD, and Clarice Jackson for joining us and sharing your knowledge and wisdom on these topics!

For the second half of the summit, we are shifting our discussion to Building Community in Schools. We will be kicking off part 2 with Session 4: Empowering Diverse Learners: Strategies for Culturally Relevant Education and will be joined by Rhonesha BlachΓ© Ed.D. and Dr. Erica Dallas!

As a biracial woman, culturally responsive practices and relationship building has always been at the forefront of my teaching pedagogy. Valuing, seeking to understand, and working with diverse learners and communities is such a privilege, and one I feel many take for granted. From this session, I hope for educators (and all attendees who participate) come away with a great understanding on the importance of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in all educational settings and can gain knowledge and resources to implement into their classrooms and/or communities that will aid in bridging diversity and cultural gaps and disparities in the educational world.

Reserve your spot for the remainder of the summit and get with us! Use Promo Code: DIVERSE4 to receive 15% off your registration order(s). PD Certificates and additional resources are sent to all registered participants!
