I mentioned in the caption of the photo I shared earlier this morning that the clouds were quite gnarly at Old Orchard today. My photo of the amusement park didn't really highlight those clouds, but turn the camera just a little further down the coast and OMG! Cloudmageddon!

When I pulled into the parking space at the pier in OOB this morning, I checked my camera and found out the memory card wasn't in it .. and it wasn't anywhere in the car either (think it's in my other puffy jacket, I'll check when I get home). But I had another one bouncing around in there, so I put it in and took a look at what was on it. Turned out it was a good morning of smoky sunrise pics from last September! I made a note to share one of them tonight. I was whipping through the thumbnails when I noticed a little smudge next to a navigational buoy that wasn't in the pics immediately preceding and following. So I opened that photo and to my delight there was a bird (osprey, maybe?) that had just taken off from the nest atop the buoy and was silhouetted very nicely against that warped mutant sun! I don't even remember seeing that the first time around. Anyway, without going through the rest of the photos I decided that would be my keepah for tonight. And to add a final footnote I was surprised I only shared two photos from that morning - there was several that I liked very much

Val Kilmer, 'Top Gun' and 'Batman Forever' star, dead at 65

Val Kilmer most recently appeared in 'Top Gun: Maverick' in 2022 to reprise his role as Tom 'Iceman' Kazansky

"Top Gun" actor Val Kilmer died on Tuesday of pneumonia in Los Angeles, according to his daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, who told the New York Times. He was 65.

𝙉𝒐𝙗𝒔𝙠𝒂 𝑵𝙞𝒈𝙝𝒕

This was our second attempt at photographing Nobska Light under the Milky Way. I came back with a good friend a few days ago after an earlier attempt had failed due to smoke in the air from Canadian forests fires.

We came in the wee hours of morning and waited until the Milky Way had fully cleared the top of the tower to take the photo. It had been cloudy earlier in the night, but the wind nicely cleared the sky of all clouds as the night progressed. I always find it humbling to watch the stars align with the land in this way.

Under a breathtaking night sky, the iconic Nobska Lighthouse stands tall, its beacon cutting through the darkness. The adjacent keeper's house glows warmly from inside security lights that cast a green glow.
