Dominic Santiago is a character from the Gears of War video game.

Dominic Santiago, or just “Dom” for short, is one of the veteran soldiers of Delta Squad, fighting the Locust Horde on the planet Sera on behalf of the Coalition of Ordered Governments. He’s the partner and close friend of Delta Squad leader Sergeant Marcus Fenix. Marcus and Dom have known each other for many years, going back to before Emergence Day. Dom was one of the few COG soldiers who remain

ed on Marcus’ side even after he was imprisoned for abandoning his post during a Locust assault on Jacinto Plateau. Later, after COG military commander Victor Hoffman issued a blanket pardon to all prisoners capable of joining the fight against the Locust, Dom took advantage of an opportunity to rescue Marcus from prison, even though Hoffman would have rather seen Fenix remain an exception to the amnesty. Dom has friends in some more unusual places as well. He’s on good enough terms with members of the Stranded community (the Serans who were left outside the stronghold of Jacinto when the COG scorched the rest of the planet’s surface) that they at least won’t shoot him on sight, which is more than a lot of his fellow Gears can say. The tattoo on his right arm reads “Maria,” in remembrance of his wife, who’s been missing since not long after Emergence Day (when she and Dom’s two children were killed). Dom refuses to believe that she may be dead, and has been searching for her ever since her disappearance. Before Dom became a soldier, he once joked, he thought about becoming a philosophy professor. Unfortunately for him, the COG doesn’t have much use for citizens looking to pursue a non-violent career path.
