Dale Alan Schmitt Recognized for Superior Image Making and Photographic Service with a Degree from the Professional Photographers of America
Pittsburgh — Dale Alan Schmitt has earned the prestigious Master of Photography degree from the Professional Photographers of America (PPA). The degree will be presented to Schmitt by PPA President Mark Campbell, M.Photog.Cr., CPP, API, at the association’s annual convention, Imaging USA, in Grapevine, TX, in February 2024.
The Master of Photography degree is a distinguished achievement, signifying that Schmitt has met the high standards of excellence set by the PPA. This honor is awarded in recognition of his superior photographic skills, demonstrated through exceptional image creation, advanced education, and dedicated service to the profession.
Schmitt’s degrees—and the expertise they represent—highlight his exceptional talent as one of a select few in his field.
Schmitt studied at the Ivy School of Professional Art, with a focus on photography. After graduation, he worked as a freelance photographer in Pittsburgh before joining Eastman Kodak in 1987. In 2008, he transitioned to Fujifilm, where he continues to support and advance his profession.
Schmitt’s portraiture has been heavily influenced by the works of Yousuf Karsh and Irving Penn, both of whom captured the essence of a person’s soul in their images.
As Schmitt explains: "Photographs, in essence, are memories of treasured moments, beautiful places, and the people we love. That’s what I love to do. Photography is not merely a pastime or occupation; it’s who I am and what I live for—preserving memories for a lifetime, for generations to come. My work can best be described as vintage glamour, with a blend of soul, drama, and imagination. Capturing beautiful images and telling my subject’s story truly drives me."
