Today In Star Wars History…
On November 17, 1978: the Star Wars Holiday Special aired on NBC for the first — and only — time! 😅
Fans got their very first look at Boba Fett in the animated “Faithful Wookiee” segment, long before Empire Strikes Back. That short was created by Nelvana, the same studio that later produced the Ewoks and Droids cartoons.
The special also gave us the debut of Chewbacca’s family — Malla, Itchy, and Lumpy — and featured appearances by the entire original cast, including Harrison Ford trying his hardest to keep a straight face.
It also gave us “Life Day”, celebrated by Wookies.
Broadcast only once and never officially released again, its “lost media” status helped make it a cult legend among collectors and fans.
Did YOU ever sit through the Holiday Special… or are you still trying to forget it? 😄
