Saturday was my third time running the Laurel Highlands Ultra, and my first time racing the 50K- it wasnt exactly what I had planned, I wanted my 3rd 70miler, but lack of training and a knee injury kept me from pushing as hard as I wanted, and kept me from running for nearly 3 weeks- but we got out there and it was a blast. Harder than I remember, but it always is- the lack of training made picking my feet up high enough to not trip, fairly difficult and I ate dirt a few times. The first fall left my big toe with what feels like a fracture or very bad bruise- but we got it done. It's hard to feel excited about it when my goal was the full 70, but I adjusted goals and distance, and finished in around 6:50, the same as Hyner.
Great job volunteers, Jim Paul and Dann LG, and thanks Ron Goat Factory Media for the photos-
50K is a fun distance- and I was very glad I was not going the whole way- somehow a not hot day got vey warm and threw a wrench into a lot of strong runners plans. now to prep for the next thing later this year
