When was the last time you and your partner stepped away for a few days with zero distractions, just the two of you?

For us, it had been far too long. Sure, we’ve done quick overnights, always prioritize family vacations, and even trips as a couple, but with just the two of us, they are usually squeezed into a work trip.

This time was different. On a whim, we looked at Google flights, based on dates and price picked a destination left it all behind and settled into a slower rhythm, just being together, exploring side by side. Venice felt like a dream: incredible food, stunning views, and no real agenda beyond enjoying each other’s company.

Now that the travel bug has bitten us again, we’re already wondering where we’ll go next, as a couple, and as a family.

I remember once saying to keep dating your spouse long after you’re married. That stuck with me, and it’s something I hope we never stop doing.

Before the views come into sight, the legs are tired, lungs are burning.

Before the fish is brought to net, its early mornings, long hikes, tired shoulders.

Before you breath in the clean air, and focus on the beautiful sights, it has to still exist.

Moments pass by so quickly. But sometimes it’s those little moments in between that stop you cold. Artie is about to be a big brother, and I’m so thankful for friends like Ian and Priscilla that trust me to capture their life, love, and adventure. We have the photos of smiles and kisses, but these quiet moments just make me smile as I think about what it means to be family.

Our kids grow so quickly. But when we get photos, most of the time these photos live on my computer or phone, and rarely get looked at.

Kelly and I are preparing to print and frame new photos for our house, and I can’t wait for hadley to see portraits of her sitting on the wall.

Heading into the backyard for some “camping” this weekend taught us a few things ⛺✨
🌙 Camp time feels different than home time, Hadley wanted us all in, no running inside.
🍕 Letting her pick “her ideas” (Jioio’s pizza & s’mores) made the night even more special.
❤️ The real magic wasn’t the tent or fire, it was simply being together, without distractions.
Sometimes the backyard is all you need for a quick adventure.
