Blessed Earth Strong the Anthony B (The Fireman) !!! Keith Blair (born 31 March 1976), better known by the stage name Anthony B, is a Jamaican DJ and member of the Rastafari movement. Keith Blair grew up in rural Clark's Town in the northwestern parish of Trelawny in Jamaica.[2] His deeply religious family life (his mother was a Seventh-day Adventist and his grandmother a Revivalist) imbued him with a profound spirituality. During his youth, his favourite singers were reggae legends Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, musicians who strongly influenced his own style.[3] Peter Tosh's influence can definitely be heard in Anthony B's vocal delivery and revolutionary stance.[3]

Anthony B adopted Rastafari movement beliefs as a teenager, a decision which was not well received by his family. The stubborn and determined Anthony B refused to give up his new religion and his dreadlocks and moved to the home of his aunt and uncle in the Kingston suburb, Portmore. He is a member of the Bobo Ashanti branch of the movement. "Bobo Dreads", as they are known, are recognisable by their long robes and turbans. The strong Afrocentric pride and the other Rastafarian beliefs (or "overstandings" as Rastafarians prefer to call them) are reflected in his songs.

Born Norman Suppria,(aka Snagga Puss) 19 March 1961, Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. Suppria was one of 16 siblings raised by his mother in the ghetto of Arnett Gardens, an area documented in the Wailers hit "Concrete Jungle". He began chanting on the local sound systems performing as Dickie Ranking and by the early 80s relocated to New York where he pursued a career as a rapper.
By 1992 he returned to Jamaica, although as Dickie Ranking he was regarded as being "past it". Inspired by the Hannah Barbara cartoon series Yogi Bear he chose to mimic the character Snagga Puss and adopted the name. In 1992 he was given the opportunity to perform at a children's show where he wowed his audience with his impersonation of the character over current rhythms.
The formula worked and Patrick Roberts of Shocking Vibes took the DJ into the studio to perform "Can't Cook", "Ex-Lover" and "Merle". By 1993 Snagga Puss was enrolled to perform alongside Freddie McGregor for an updated version of the Justin Hinds' hit "Carry Go Bring Come". The track was produced by Gussie Clarke and topped the reggae charts around the world. The success led to another combination; "Give It Up" performed alongside Junior Tucker and an advertising contract promoting milk products.
The DJ released his official debut, Whap Dem Merlene, dedicated to the Jamaican athlete Merlene Ottey and he inspired a new dance craze with the sublime "Tatie". Notable hits from 1995 included, "Girls Roll Call", "Love Bug" and the introduction of a new cartoon style with "Woody Woodpecker", previously covered by Dillinger.

Snagga Puss maintained his profile through to the millennium touring with Shocking Vibes, introduced the Urkle dance (a reference to a character in the US sitcom Family Matters) and began mimicking another cartoon character, Popeye.

2 WAILERS PASSING: Aston Barrett, a bassist for the legendary reggae band Bob Marley & The Wailers born in Kingston, Jamaica has died. He was 77. Three days before Bob Marley's birthday & Kingsley McDonald Born in Gary, Indiana in 1953 died exactly on Bob Marley's birthday. Kinsey found himself in the company of blues greatness as his father was the Big Daddy Kinsey. With a master of the blues as a father, it only seemed fitting that Kinsey would follow in his footsteps. Even at a young age, the musician started to perform with his father, learning what it means to play the blues. Seeming to have a natural act for music, the guitarist eventually toured with Albert King when he finished high school.

Seeing the talent in Kinsey, Bruce Iglauer signed him and his brothers to their first deal. Speaking about what drew him to the guitarist, Iglauer explained, “He sang not only about men and women and love and loss, but he also sang about street violence and he sang about racism and a number of other contemporary topics. So this is another thing that made the Kinsey Report and Donald very special.”

As mentioned above, Kinsey’s passing not only happened on Marley’s birthday, but just three days prior, Aston “Family Man” Barrett, the bassist for the Wailers, also passed away in Miami. With two great musicians gone within days of each other, again – fans couldn’t express the importance of their contribution to music. “If you’ve never seen them live, you’re only getting a fraction of the experience. They have one of the best live sounds I’ve heard.”

This Will Be Shelly's Last Fair Well Olympics !! Three-time Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has revealed she plans to retire after the Paris Games this summer.

The 37-year-old won the 100m title in both 2008 and 2012, and collected a third Olympic gold as part of the Jamaican relay team at Tokyo 2020.

That latter title, as well as three of her 10 world titles, came after the birth of her son in 2017.

In an interview with Essence.com., Fraser-Pryce said her family was the key to her decision. “There’s not a day I’m getting up to go practise and I’m like, ‘I’m over this’,” she said. “My son needs me. My husband and I have been together since before I won in 2008. He has sacrificed for me.

“We’re a partnership, a team. And it’s because of that support that I’m able to do the things that I have been doing for all these years. And I think I now owe it to them to do something else.”

Fraser-Pryce, who also has four Olympic silver medals and one bronze, became the oldest woman to the win the 100m world title when she took gold in Doha in 2019, and she reclaimed the crown in Eugene in 2022 at the age of 35.

Last year, Fraser-Pryce was caught on video winning her son’s sports day race in Jamaica. The multiple Olympic and world championship gold medallist lined up against other mothers and unsurprisingly won by a distance.

Pluto Shervington (13 August 1950 – 19 January 2024), also known as Pluto, was a Jamaican reggae musician, singer, engineer, and producer.
Pluto Shervington, known for several hits like I Man Born Ya, Ram Goat Liver and Dat. has died at the age of 73.🙏🏽🙏 Shervington migrated to South Florida one year after ‘I Man Born Ya’ topped charts in Jamaica. The single referenced socialist Prime Minister Michael Manley’s infamous “five flights to Miami” speech which opponents took as an order for his detractors to leave the country.

‘I Man Born Ya’ was recorded at Federal Records, owned by the Khouri family. Smith and Shervington were two of that company’s marquee acts, scoring with a series of easy-listening songs like ‘Life Is Just For Living’, ‘Duppy Gunman’, ‘Your Honour’ and ‘Dat’.

He is born the same day as my grandfather. Shabba Ranks (born Rexton Rawlston Fernando Gordon; 17 January 1966) is a Jamaican dancehall musician.
Ranks was born in Sturgetown, St. Ann, Jamaica, and raised in Trenchtown.
He gained his fame mainly by toasting (or rapping) rather than singing, like some of his dancehall contemporaries in Jamaica. He was a protégé of deejay Josey Wales. His original stage name was Co-Pilot.His international career started in the late 1980s, along with a number of fellow Jamaicans including reggae singers Cocoa Tea and Crystal. Ranks also worked with Chuck Berry and American rappers KRS-One and Chubb Rock.
He secured a recording contract with Epic Records in 1989.
The stylistic origins of the genre reggaeton may be traced back to the 1990 song "Dem bow", from Ranks' album Just Reality. Produced by Bobby "Digital" Dixon, the Dem Bow riddim became so popular in Puerto Rican freestyle sessions that early Puerto Rican reggaeton was simply known as "Dembow".[4] The Dem Bow riddim is an integral and inseparable part of reggaeton, so much so that it has become its defining characteristic.[5]
His biggest hit single outside of Jamaica was the reggae fusion smash "Mr. Loverman". Other big tracks include "Housecall" with Maxi Priest, "Slow and Sexy" with Johnny Gill, "Respect", "Pirates Anthem", "Trailer Load A Girls", "Wicked inna Bed", "Caan Dun", and "Ting A Ling". He won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 1992 for As Raw as Ever and in 1993 for X-tra Naked.
In 1993, Ranks scored another hit in the Addams Family Values soundtrack to which he contributed a rap/reggae version of the Sly and the Family Stone hit "Family Affair". His third album for Epic, A Mi Shabba, was released in 1995. He was dropped by the label in 1996. Epic went on to release a greatest hits album, entitled Shabba Ranks and Friends in 1999.
Ranks made a partial comeback in 2007 when he appeared on a song called "Clear The Air" by Busta Rhymes, which also featured Akon. Shabba released a single on Big Ship's Pepper Riddim called "None A Dem", in April 2011. In 2012, Shabba was featured on Tech N9ne's EP E.B.A.H. on the track "Boy Toy".
