Hi Everyone,

Here are some things going on in AHYP land.

Tomorrow is our February First Friday event. We'll have appetizers available, $3 Miller Lites, and a special on Rye Old Fashioneds. The Pens game will also be on the television and I'll be wearing a Pens jersey. I only note this so you don't think Mario Lemieux himself has entered the AHYP, alas, it is only me. Back to the point, you should come out and have a drink and a bite to eat. As with all First Friday events, this is open to members and non-members, so bring some friends along!

The Pittsburgh Committee on Foreign Relations will be here on Tuesday, February 18th. The subject of the talk that night is Ukraine and European Security and the featured speaker is Nikolas Gvosdev. I've attached a flyer to this email so you can see the details.

What are you doing on Wednesday, February 19th for lunch? Your answer should be "Well, Dave, I'm coming down to the member lunch at that AHYP Club." We are trying to start a monthly lunch for club members. This one will take place at noon on the 19th and feature pot roast with onions and carrots, Yukon gold mashed potatoes, and salad. The cost is $20. Immediate past President Wes Posvar invites you to take a seat at the stammtisch where important matters will most certainly be discussed! If you're interested in attending, please let me know by Wednesday, February 12th at noon. Please email or call me if interested. [email protected] or 412.281.5858

Our dinner theater presentation of Mobsters, Molls and Marinara is open to everyone and is selling well. The dinner and show will be on Friday, February 28th. $65 gets you dinner, show and a drink ticket. Tickets are on sale until February 20th and you can purchase them HERE: https://lnkd.in/e4RqWfkp
Be forewarned that they may (50-50 chance) sell out before then, so if you're thinking of pulling the trigger (mobsters, get it?), do so soon.

Swartz in the City returns on Thursday, March 13th at 530pm. Featured startups include Headstrait Labs and Sabana. The details are attached to this email and you can register for the event HERE:

Have yourself a good Thursday evening,

Dave

Hello All,

Just an update on some club things.

We are open tomorrow at 4pm and can be a great pregame spot if you find yourself coming down to the Pens game. Miller Lites will be $3!

We've just become a reciprocal partner with the Westmoreland Club in Wilkes Barre, PA. The club has a variety of beautiful dining options. If you plan on heading to Wilkes Barre, let me know and we can get you a letter of introduction. https://westmorelandclub.org/

Tickets are still on sale for the murder mystery dinner theater event here on February 28th. They're on sale until February 20th. Get out of the house and come on down to the club and have a fun evening. This event is open to members and non-members. Tickets can be ordered here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/ahyp-club-murder-mystery-dinner-mobsters-molls-and-marinara-tickets-1144869418249?aff=oddtdtcreator

We are having a club member luncheon on Wednesday, February 19th at noon. Cost would be $20 and includes a buffet style lunch featuring pot roast. Perfect for a blustery, Pittsburgh day in the heart of winter. Come enjoy the club and your fellow members' company. If you want to attend that, please let me know by February 12th as I need to get the food ordered.

That's all for now, have a good weekend,

-Dave

Hello All,

Happy New Year and merry Orthodox Christmas to those who celebrate! The club is back in business having reopened on the 2nd for a small wedding that took place in our library and dining areas. Keep us in mind for yours or your friends' events.

The hours of the club are being enhanced. We will now be open Monday through Saturday. On Mondays we will be open 12-8pm with lunch available. It's strongly advised you call or email in advance for lunch reservations as it helps gets orders to you in a timely manner. Saturdays we will be open 4-8pm. As always, if there are people here enjoying themselves at 8pm, we will stay open to accommodate. These new hours / days will take effect beginning on Monday, January 13th.

Upcoming events include the following:

Our friends The Harvard Club of Western Pennsylvania and All-Ivy-Plus gang are presenting a lecture here on Tuesday, January 28th at 5:15pm. It's entitled The Future of Pittsburgh Architecture. I've attached a flyer with all the details. You can register here: https://fisherarch.com/

The next First Friday event will be Friday, February 7th. Keep in mind these First Friday events are open to non-members as well.

The Pittsburgh Committee on Foreign Relations will have a seminar on the Ukraine and Europe on Tuesday, February 18th. That event is set to start with appetizers at 5pm and run until approximately 8pm or so. More details will be forthcoming soon and I'll share them with you at that time.

We will be having a murder mystery night on Friday, February 28th. The cost will be $65 per person plus tax and include a dinner buffet, a drink ticket, and the show. Dinner will be at 6pm with the show beginning at 7pm. I will have more details soon but please mark it on your calendar. This event is open to all and should be a ton of fun!

I've attached some photos of the Club's holiday party in case you didn't make it. A fun time was had by all, please plan on joining us next year!

Finally, if you have a hankering for Girl Scout cookies, I've got you covered. My 7 year old daughter Juliet is selling them (she's a Brownie). If you'd like to purchase some, and I know you do, you can click here:

The rumor that I will tax (eat) 10% of all cookies purchased, is simply a rumor, nothing more. So, please order with confidence!

Hello All,

Merry Christmas, happy Hanukkah, and season greetings! Just some updates before we head into our holiday break here.

As mentioned in the last post, the Flashlight Factories lofts has partnered with us to be a preferred lodging partner. To receive a discount from the typical Air B&B rate, contact me and I'll put you in touch with the loft's owner.

Today is the club holiday party & dinner. Shame on you for six weeks if you skipped out on this one. There's going to be spiked eggnog, delicious appetizers and a great buffet. I understand that if we're lucky, former club president Wes Posvar, may even serenade us with some carols!

Our friends The Harvard Club of Western Pennsylvania and All-Ivy-Plus gang are presenting a lecture here on Tuesday, January 28th at 5:15pm. It's entitled The Future of Pittsburgh Architecture. I've attached a flyer with all the details. Please note however, registration will close January 18th, not the 23rd as stated on the form. I need to get the catering settled well ahead of the event.

The club will be closed December 21st through the 1st of January. We will reopen on January 2nd at 2pm. We will also be open January 3rd, which will be our First Friday event as well. Come down and have a drink! You're going to want to escape that family holiday togetherness by then, I'm sure!

Coming in February will be a murder mystery dinner night. Circle your calendars for Friday, February 28th. I'll have more details soon but we'll have dinner and then the show. Let people know, bring a group, as it's sure to be a fun evening!

Way down the road, after the snow is gone and winter is but a memory, on May 3rd, we plan on hosting a Kentucky Derby watch party here at the club. Men, dust off those Levine hats and women, find a lovely fascinator to don. Or hey, it's 2024, men can wear a fascinator if they so choose! After a few mint juleps, it won't matter.

Have a great holiday season,

-Dave

Hello All,

I wanted to let you know that we have partnered with the Flashlight Factory on Pittsburgh's north side to be a preferred lodging partner with the AHYP Club. The Flashlight Factory has a variety of Air B&B type suites available for rental. Their information can be found here:
https://lnkd.in/edZgK8qv

The building that the suites reside in was, in fact, a flashlight factory, many years ago. The flashlight and single cell battery were developed here. Over the decades the building has seen many uses and has been home to several suites for a number of years now. Many a film production company has utilized the building due to its uniqueness. Stars that have been through there include Denzel Washington, Vin Diesel, and Ewan McGregor, to name a few. Pretty neat!

So, if you have guests from out of town and they're looking for an interesting, unique, place to stay, be sure to recommend the Flashlight Factory!
