Spotlight On: The History of Veteran’s Organizations and Soldiers & Sailors
Originally conceived by the Grand Army of the Republic, Soldiers & Sailors has had a long history of relationships with veteran groups. This program will examine these connections including a focus on Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), American Legion and many more. Join us just days after Veteran’s Day to learn about artifacts and photographs from our collection that highlight the unique history of Veteran’s Organizations and Soldiers & Sailors.
Here’s a sneak peak of our lovely volunteers laying out the flags for this year’s Fill the Hill.
Remember there’s still time to help us cover the lawn for Veterans Day for our special luminary lighting of ‘Light up the Hill’.
Spotlight On: The Stories Military Uniforms Tell
Symbols on a military uniform are key to understanding the story behind a soldier’s service. Join us to learn how to interpret the different patches, ribbons, pins, insignia and chevrons found on American uniforms through the years. Spotlight On: Pacific War Souvenirs
Throughout history soldiers have captured items from the enemy to take back home as souvenirs. Weapons, flags, uniforms, or other equipment become objects considered “trophies of war”. Join us to learn about artifacts from our collection that were acquired by American Soldiers in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
