Opening act on December 14th Second Saturday Concerts is RICHARD MARCH!!

As a songwriter/storyteller, Richard March is a modern day throwback to the melodic, progressive country music stars of several decades ago. March's live performance skills have garnered him opening positions for Johnny Cash's legendary backing band the Tennessee Three, folk icon Ramblin' Jack Elliott, the popular Steve Forbert, bluesmen Nick Gravenites and John Hammond, Straycat Lee Rocker and western soul cult heroes the Hacienda Brothers.

Richard is a Sacramento Area Music Award (SAMMIE) winner for Outstanding Male Vocalist, received a Best of Sacramento award from Sacramento Magazine for best local Americana artist, and was awarded Best Locally Produced Album in the Sacramento News and Review's 2007 "Best of" issue. Richard can be heard on NPR's Blue Dog Jams and has been heard on Air America as well as other various outlets in California and Oregon, has made several local television appearances, and is considered to be at the forefront of the Americana scene in the Sacramento area.

In June of 2013, Richard took a break from the ‘performing’ life to fulfill his longtime dream of serving overseas as a Peace Corps volunteer. He was sent to Motta, Ethiopia where he completed a very challenging, and rewarding 27 month service using music to support his teaching of English to both teachers and students. In December of 2015 Richard returned to the Sacramento area and has begun performing again, while re-adjusting to the American pace of life. While Ethiopian musical influences are not yet found in his recent shows, what is evident is a storyteller with a renewed sense of presence in the moment, and purpose for the future.

The price of music. We all enjoy this rich musical community but often don't pay for it. Many of the venues in our community offer music with no cover fees. They hope customers will come for the music and buy their products. Hopefully the musicians are being paid. Often they are not paid very much if anything at all. The next time you go out to hear some music, ask the artists about it. Please seek out and support the venues that pay for the music they serve if you can. The Second Saturday concerts at Shingle Springs Community Center is a great example of this. $10 at the door may seem costly but remember that money goes directly to the artists first. Only after the bands are paid does the Community Center keep any of the admission fees. On a slow night the center loses money but the artists don't. Your support of these shows can really make a difference to the bands, the center and to the whole musical community. Jamie Faw
