πͺ»Because, pollinators! Not only are flowers beautiful, they support our vital pollinators that support our ecosystem.
π
Love those fruits and veggies? Thank a pollinator! They are our plants' "helpers" and are responsible for one out of three bites of food we consume (pollinator.org).
πΏ Here they are enjoying our flowering mint earlier this year. Part of our increase in perennial planting has these special beings in mind. We'll be seeding flowers that pollinators love!
π PS have you seen our 100-foot row of bee balm? They're a pollinator favorite plus the foliage smells like Earl Grey!
βοΈ We quickly fell in love with blue glitter sea holly this past season. Adding textural interest to bouquets, it also retains its unique blue hue once dried. You may recognize it from our dried flower pumpkins, car vent clip cases, wreaths, and fresh bouqs.
β We tried to pre-sprout indoors early in 2024 and found we had a high failure rate with the seedlings (user error, we're sure). This time, we're embracing the natural germination of the plant, which is to drop seed naturally and over-winter on the ground and sprout with warmer spring temps.
π± Besides it's unique form and color, another amazing thing about sea holly is that it's a longstanding perennial, so once it grows, it's around for a nice long time. Another plant in our plan to convert more of our space to perennials!

πͺ We want to install a storm door to protect the antique door on the west side of the studio but this concrete step was in our path, preventing the door from opening all the way outward. (The door was originally on the north side of our house. We saved it when we replaced that door with a window.)
πͺ Diamond blade, saw, angle grinder, and some brute strength solved that problem!
