Pick a venue that is not to difficult to find.

If the budget is tight, scale down on the venue, and put more into the evening entertainment.

If the wedding starts at 4, that means you are sitting down at 4, not arriving.

Lastly, jeans & tee shirt are not proper attire.

Questions to ask your venue; BEFORE you sign a contract

Are start and end times flexible? This is a bigger factor for Friday weddings. A Friday wedding should not start before 6 pm.

What other events are happening that night? This is only pertinent at venues that have multi simultaneous events. Events such as a prom, klan rally, or a controversial subject such as a Pro Life or Pro Choice gathering could create distractions you were not planning on.

What is the availability for a rehearsal and will it be on the actual spot the ceremony will be at?

Are dressing rooms on site?

Will the gift table be watched and is there a secure place to put gifts during reception?

When and where can photos be taken? This should be asked at every venue, but becomes especially pertinent at golf courses. Often photos will be limited based on golfer convenience.

How private will the actual site be where the ceremony will take place?
How far away will the golf carts be allowed to drive if at a golf course?

What is the processional route?

Does the venue provide microphones for the service and speaches?

If an outdoor wedding, what are the inside options in the event of issues with weather?

Because personal changes often at some venues, make sure this is all in writing.

Jeans, shorts and a tee shirt are not proper attire for a wedding( unless otherwise stated)

Do Not buy a gift not on a registry. Money
always works well. If money is very tight, one can make a gift, or a photo of one and the bride and groom works in a pinch, but don't skip wedding due to lack of funds, they want you there if and only if you were invited and you RSVP'ed.

Today's Wedding tip..... Hold the gluten hold the onions........

With all the food allergies, and personal food preferences, if you are offering food options on your RSVP, specify one item as gluten free, vegetarian , no peanuts , onions etc.

DO NOT ASK FOR OR LEAVE OPEN FOR PEOPLE TO SPECIFY ( unless you want to pay $1000 extra from your caterer for all the special orders)

You want to accommodate your guest as well as prevent anyone from going into anaphylactic shock at your wedding, but you only need to go so far. I believe all none breaded meat is gluten free, but make one clear option that covers everyone!!

If you see a car with "just married" on it, honking and making noice is welcomed and appropriate. If you drive past an outdoor wedding in progress, those same activities are distracting, obnoxious, and disrespectful.

Today's wedding tip, the Dress!!!!
Shop around and keep to a budget. Check overstock and outdated bins .
Sadly, dress salespeople are often on commission and not only have tactics to get you to buy, many are skilled in tuning into the emotion of getting married.
Do not go alone, they often want you to stating no one should see you in the dress until your wedding. The truth is, their odds of a sale go up cuz they can play the emotional card better.
Take photos so you can compare.
Look at overseas shops when you send in measurements. ( budget for alterations)
You will only wear it once, so spin offs work.

There are less reputable shops out there, and some that do an outstanding job ( Wedding Shoppe on Grand gets an A++) and many in between
Like anything else, talk to us first and we will provide sound advice on this or any wedding needs

Remember Minnesota Wedding and Events, home of the award winning officiant, Mark Bomchill for officiant and all of your wedding needs

I'm here to help.
We live in a society.
During this time I can only imagine wedding plans have been devastated.

I'm willing to officiate for what you can pay even if it's nothing.

I'm going to pay it forward....Will you?

My "Event and Wedding" tip of the moment.
If you are hiring a caterer or cake maker, the laws are simple and every event food vendor knows it, a food handlers licence is required. In addition, the food MUST be made in a commercial kitchen.
Do not accept excuses such as " we can do it as a donation to side step"
These are NOT unnecessary regulations, there are good reasons for these laws and many venues will require proof of compliance ( sometimes not until the last minute)

12/05/2019

Thank you cards:
When you receive more than one gift from someone, each gift must be recognized with its own thank you card. If you receive a shower gift from a friend or relative and then, three weeks later, receive as wedding gift from the same person, it is not appropriate to thank them in one card. Shower gifts should be acknowledged within ten days of the party and wedding gifts within two weeks after returning from the honeymoon. Wedding gifts arriving in advance of the wedding, should be responded to immediately, so that an extended period of time does not pass between receiving the gift and it's thank you.
No pre printed you cards
Remember to thank shower hosts

03/29/2019

If family members insist that you invite a few more of their friends or relatives you can respond with, " we are at our budget but if you want to contribute (additional) for their meal, we can add a few more."
Do NOT accept " you will get a nice gift" as an answer. Food has to be paid for in advance and gifts are for your use, not to pay wedding bills.

Today's tip, tell a lie or 2. Let your wedding party and parents think the rehearsal ad other gatherings start 10-15 minutes before they actually do.

I had a blast this weekend in St Cloud! Big kudos to the fabulous staff at the St Cloud Country Club who proved that there are exceptions to my opinion that there are often better options to weddings than country clubs. St Cloud CC is an amazing place to host a wedding!!
